Not my prettiest work, and I'll probably dab a little finishing oil onto the edges of those holes, but the 9/16" (14mm) Forstner bit did the job, cutting flat-bottomed holes with just a dimple in the middle to guide the standard 3/16" bit (and 5/32" for the neck-side pilot holes) in. Definitely a good grip on the neck this time. I currently have just a low E string on, which showed I need a bit of a shim before continuing. Some old tamo ash scraps are gluing up now.
