I think you did this very well!
I agree about the smile. It's very child-like, but there's just a hint of maybe a crush in it too. I also particularly like the colour of the background. It's pink which is kinda young girl-y, but it's a strong pink that symbolizes the transition nicely, AND, while it's a strong pink it's not RED ('cause that could have been taken as a little whore-y) hehe.
I also really dig the composition with your hair kind of careless, and the placement of your left hand. Very well done!
