As for hands; they're always a tricky one, and I find they need to be practiced all the time to keep them in check, if I've had a break from drawing for a while the first palces it shows are hands and faces...
I'd say the best way to get really good at drawing cartoon hands is to actually draw loads and loads of hands from life; i.e; realistically. I've drawn literally pages and pages in countless sketchbooks of just loads of tiny little hand-studies (usually of my own hands), it's only when you really understand the form, construction, movement and proportions of real hands that you can start to confidently mess around with cartoonifying/simplifying and exaggerating them.
Really it all comes down to understanding the basic construction, and then just practising!
