Tired of RPG related pics?

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 18, 2012, 1:51 AM
  • Listening to: The Songs of Distant Earth (Mike Oldfield)
  • Reading: Darkover Landfall
  • Watching: rain
  • Playing: nothing, yet
  • Drinking: shandy

I've got to wondering recently wether the people who fave my postings are getting somewhat tired of the amount of pics I do that are game related (thats local traditional RPG stuff not computer games) ? I've other projects on the go but most are real modelling exercises rather than computer generated be that either from kits or scratchbuilding. I think its about time I had a change of direction art wise but would like to know what others think. Scifi has been a passion my entire life although it must be said that I prefer hard scifi to space operas like Star Trek et al. Don't take me wrong I do like a good space opera occasionally, theres nothing better that a rip roaring all action adventure thats been well written, E. E. "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series being a perfect early example of this, I can re-read those books over and over and never tire of them even if they are "formula" pulp. I'm currently reading a series I've not touched since the early 70s called Darkover by Marion Zimmer Bradley and they haven't lost their seductive magic in all those years. The reawakening of psi in latent crash survivors is a great premise for a story I think. I may do a few images from that but I will really need to start a new sketchbook so to correlate character details as described in the texts, everyones interpretation of books being different of course.

Well I'd appreciate any thoughts you creative people may have.

Dave

I'd love to see some of the processes that you go thru in designing originals! Ships, interiors, whatever! I soooo need help with that stuff! Haha!

pretty easy -get a knee drawing board or a sketchpad and doodle till you get something worth developing.

its not hard really. just start with some basic idea of what you want to build, if its an interior start with a perspective of empty box and play around with profiles on a side bar till you've a clearer idea of the overall style o the room and alter your empty box accordingly, after that its just a case of filling in the details - start with primitives and play is the best solution I think.

Yeah, I hear you. It's probably just my inadequacy with tech affecting me. I've spend so much type on just figures that the other stuff just gets intimidating.

I'm cool with what you've been coming up with. It's good stuff I think. And a little jealousy inducing since I've wanted to do 3D rendering, but haven't committed the time to learn. Someday...someday...

More maps and figures would be welcome but I enjoy the RPG pieces as well or else I wouldn't keep watching for each of your uploads.

by all means one should always expand their artistic scope and skill to become a better all around artist.

I for one have never seen a problem with your RPG stuff. If you enjoy generating shots from your campaigns, and your fellow gamers like them as well then you shouldn't stop.

As long as they're interesting, I like seeing your work not the subjects you pick...

I think the RPG stuff is fine. The source of inspiration doesn't stop the images from being extremely enjoyable to look at. If you have ideas for other things (like some of your older scenes, like temples and such) then by all means, go for it. I'm a fan either way :)

Was a friend of the family that brought the matter up saying that I never seem to do any figures anymore or maps like I used to, it got me thinking as to what other people might think on here - hence the journal.
