Kiriban stamp by kanako91 Kiriban stamp by kanako91
=Skioppy and I needed this stamp, so here it is :D If you need too, use it :la:

Why that stuff of "kiriban only for active watchers"?
Because it's not fair that randon people or watchers who never fav, or comment, your works have the opportunity to win a free drawing from you.
Kiribans are gifts to people who love your art and are not afraid to show it to you (even only with favs), right?
EDIT: Maybe it's not clear, but active watchers and friends are not the same thing ;)

That's all :)

Some quotations from the comments below that I totally support:
:bulletblue: So I think it's better to limit it to active watchers who really like your art and maybe can't afford a commission.
:bulletblue: But people can comment here and there or add a picture to their favs if they like it and then they would be considered an "active watcher" and qualify for the kiriban, so it's not only for friends but for people who show that they like your art and are not just looking for the free opportunity to get pictures. I think it's just fair to limit it to "active watchers".
And active watchers doesn't mean "friends only" because I have a active watchers I don't consider as my "online friends" who would get the kiriban without a second thought.

This is perfectly understandable. Sometimes people who argue against it don't know how kiriban hunters work. There are even scripts kiriban hunters can use to check a deviant's page and see how far away kiriban is. It will alert them if kiriban is within 10 pv while they are online and they check it from different IPS until they get kiriban. Kiribans should go to people who love the artist's work and watch them because they like the drawings. They don't need to be friends to do that.

Exactly
It happened to me twice, that's why I decided to follow this policy (that I saw from others artists) for my kiribans.

LOL A certain someone who feels the need to incessantly heckle others over the definition of a japanese internet term that means nothing more than 'milestone' is the kind of person who ruins the kindness of other people who are willing to give halfway decent art to their fans for free, rather than to some random fool you've never seen before who is camping your front page. All I see from them is 'herpadurpdurp i like to argue about meaningless things because i think i am somehow the guru of terms that have been done one way SOMETIMES before and oh god they can't ever change because that would shatter my world view and i am always right and anyone else who thinks otherwise is an idiot'

... Do whatever you want to do and just tell the other people to get lost. They need a lesson in mind your own business. :\

You're so right! What happened in these comments didn't change my mind, because it's me the one who has to draw the kiribans, so I do what I want about it  And I'm not commanding the others to do the same.

Exactly right! ugh, people. really.

I don't understand people or their incessant need to feel right about something that is entirely subjective. I mean, isn't it embarrassing to look like such a fool in front of a bunch of people?

Just do what you have to do and makes you happy :]

I love how people are telling you how to run your own kiriban.

The amount of entitlement and self-importance on the internet is staggering.

"Etymology: Japanese (kiriban) from (kiri no ii ban) - "a number which is a good place to stop", "a round number". "

Nowhere does it say that 'a random person, ANY random person, has to catch this in order to be a kiriban or else the world breaks and you destroy the meaning of the term'.

Honestly. :\

Then maybe try not using the word kiriban? Because it came into use when random visitors to manga/anime sites won free art. They didn't have to be active. They were entirely random. Besides that's the whole point of it. Unless you want your active watchers refreshing the page constantly.

For me kiriban like a lottery - where you get page views and random lucky man - drawing from you.
Drawings for the friends called 'gift' and they have nothing to do with kiriban.

I already said that active watchers are not the same as friends ;) For example, there are some of my watchers that fav my works and, even if we never talk about anything and they are not my friends, I consider them active watchers because they show me they're following me in some way ^^

I think it's a great idea and I will use it. Random "hit and run" kiriban-hunters are disappointing I think. And there is nothing wrong to limit kiriban-access to active watchers only :meow:

I can totally understand you. I once had to draw a kiriban for a stranger and all I got as thank you was a "oh it's nice" comment. That was highly disappointing.
So I think it's better to limit it to active watchers who really like your art and maybe can't afford a commission.

You announce kiriban. That mean that you will receive much more pv that you receive ussueal, right.
That meant that your picture is 'payment' for pvs.
In other way you really may draw gifts or requests for people you only know.

'Please make me 1000+ pv but I will draw for my friends, so you guys who gave me pvs bye-bye' - this is your current politic.

I mean, what you announce like a kiriban isn't a kiriban any more.

I don't see the kiriban picture as a payment for the pvs, but for the support. And pvs, favs and comments are a way to show your support, that's all. If you give me only pvs, that's not the same of giving a fav or a comment. It's easy, right?

I actually do draw gift for my friends because they are by my side, because I love them, because I love their characters and whatever... It's a way to thank them for existing. But I don't do requests because I have no motivation to draw what I was asked.

As I said before, active watchers and friends are not the same ^^

But anyway, I don't want to have a fight with you or with anyone else, because it would be useless. I'm thankful to you for your gentle opinion but I know neither you nor I will change our mind about it.

May be you should read wikipedia or another sites to understand what is kiriban exactly.

You have your meaning for kiriban and you are not against to receive many pvs from people who didn't leave comments every month^^
Sweet freebie ^^

Ok.
Some guy added artist to watch-list and faved half of his gallery but without ass-kissing nice/great/super comments.
He will receive "kiriban" from artist?

I would give this person the kiriban. Because the person is active. And nobody needs to give "ass kissing" comments. I don't have time to comment on all the people I watch, but I try. And sometimes I can only provide short comments myself... but a comment here or there doesn't harm anyone and kiribans are not meant to be a free way to get art since there are really kiriban-ninjas out there who snag them from people who really want them.
