Oh, yes. They float, Georgie. They float. And when you're down here with me . . . you float too!

This year, I carved Pennywise the Dancing Clown (as portrayed by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries) from Stephen King's novel It. I used my own pattern on a natural pumpkin.

don't look like much as just a carving, but dang man. when lit, it's pretty dang tight.

should win a contest if you entered a few.

Thanks! It's true that they never look like anything when they're not lit from within. (Sometimes, I even doubt that it came out right until I light it for the first time.) That's the main reason I don't enter local contests -- they're almost always judged during the day.

Online contests can be tricky too. If the outcome is determined by likes or votes, the winner is simply who gets the most people to vote instead of who carved the best pumpkin. That's why I usually only enter contests with judges.

Winning something is always a nice perk, but I primarily carve for the love of it.

for day contests, maybe attach a photo. write a note to the judges to test it out to verify it actually looks like that. people be photoshopping these days. lol.  but yeah, see if you can have a photo with it.

as for entering online contests, I'd say don't sweat it. ask as many people you know to vote for you, and let the pumpkin do the rest.  there should be a good amount of public traffic that are unbiased, and only vote for pumpkins they really like.
