Urbex

Urban Explorers are likely to find absolutely anything when they venture into abandoned places. Read about what this photographer found when he ventured into an abandoned Sugar Mill... It's also nice to read about how places have been rescued from becoming abandoned and lost to history, like this New York lighthouse which people are working hard to restore and make into a B & B! Hotels can be fairly daunting at the best of times, especially some of those old ones and at night. But I think that these urban exploration captures of abandoned hotels and hotel rooms are actually quite beautiful in their own strange way...

Design tips: Typography

Design tips: Typography

:bulletorange: Avoid the use of the font Optima, particularly for luxury or similarly "fancy" types of clients. It looks generally dated and plain. :bulletorange: Try not to pair different sans-serif fonts (ex: Arial and Helvetica), but if you do, do not use fonts that are similar. The key is to use fonts that are distinctly different, such as a condensed sans for headlines and regular sans like Helvetica or Verdana for subheads or body copy. If you use two that are similar, it will look like you mistakenly didn't update all your text with the same font. :bulletorange: If you want to pair a serif font with a sans-serif or vice versa, there

The Most Dedicated Woman I've Known...

The Most Dedicated Woman I've Known...

A week ago today, we lost the most dedicated woman I've ever known...My Mom. It was very sudden almost a blink of an eye. She had been sick over the last year, but was on the mend. She had been in the hospital two weeks prior to her passing due to some severe disorientation and confusion. She was on steroids because she'd had an over-active thyroid problem. We believe the steroids contributed to some memory lapses which caused her to misuse her medication and take more than what she remembered taking. But they were trying to fix that. Last Monday she appeared to be fine the entire day, but that night when my Dad was trying to help her to bed

My deviantART Story

My deviantART Story

It's really short and simple. I joined back in 2006 somewhere around October....it might have been 2005. We'll see if the year mark ticks over come the end of October. I was dating someone who was a member at the time. She was on here one night when I was at her place and I asked her what she was doing. She started showing me around and I made an account that night. I'd stopped coming around for a little while, but then I got some sort of creative spark and began playing around with Photoshop. Started making forum signatures for myself and friends. Which turned into making fliers for event in City of Heroes. I lost my job in 2007 and ended u

There is a distinct possibility...

That I'll be closing my account permanently by the end of the year at the very latest, maybe sooner. The rampant art thievery that is allowed to continue here is astounding! I personally have reported image/user after image/user when there is no doubt that the person A) Did not take themselves B) When they outright say that they just took images off the internet and posted them because they think that unless they see a visible copyright, it's public domain and therefore they can use the pictures however they wish. DeviantArt USED to be an ARTIST community. Don't get me wrong, there are people on here that do the best they can with what equi

You're welcome! I like your style and am a bit jealous of your ability. I'm trying to teach myself digital painting. Just figuring out where to start.
Oh you are kind! That's so interesting, you should absolutely give it a try! I would recommend starting gently, i started with learning the basis of photoshop/corel painter, just so I could navigate in it. After that I started painting with the mouse, I can't recommend that....if you want to paint for real, you need a wacom tablet for sure. It can almost feel like painting traditionally!

Yea, I have an Intuos that I use for my graphic designs and photo editing and I love it! Just trying to figure out the basics of painting. Where to start, what aspects I should try to master first before moving on to another area. Figures scare the hell out of me....well people drawing period.
