EDIT April 13 2013: Aaaah thank you so much for the DD, i am in shock ;A; Many thanks to *spring-sky for suggesting and ^Elandria for featuring and to everyone else for supporting me!
EDIT April 14 2013: Changed the font and font colour to make it easier to read! I've been meaning to do that for a while xD
Plus you must press quite hard when doing the grass if you're using a graphics tablet or ensure that the smudge tool strength is around 90-100%.
(thanks to ~TornIntegral for the second note)
I hope that it makes sense! None of it is scientifically accurate or anything, it's just my observations and thoughts
Use these tutorials as a way of helping you to develop your own techniques. Try out slightly different methods to see which works best for you.
Enjoy! Feel free to ask questions.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could credit me under your pictures if you've heavily referenced from these tutorials but no worries if you haven't. And i'd love it if you could post links here so i can se what you've done
I'd like to say a thank you to ~MissNysha and this tutorial [link] where i was originally inspired into this grass technique c:
Done in Photoshop CS4.
It was one of the few tutorials I could find on the site back in the early 2010s and really build a foundation of how to paint backgrounds. I can't express the amount of gratitude I still have for this tutorial (and your second one)! Backgrounds are one of my proudest parts of my work and I wouldn't know where I'd be without artists like you making it a little less intimidating to try doing so!! It's also so nice to see how far you've come as well since your art in this. Again, thank you so much! Even now this is one of the tutorials I've never forgotten about
A decade?! Time sure flies haha.
Awww I'm so glad it managed to help so much! I've thought about taking it down a few times considering it's so ancient but it continues to get attention from time to time so i just leave it to help new artists
Thank you so so much for these kind words! Makes me so happy, your paintings are beautiful! Sending you all the best for future artistic adventures!
