Wow!
Now THIS is at the highest peak of relatable!
You really took a big scoop of your life on this and it really shows.
Would rather create a masterpiece than do your work, huh?
Did you ever GET to your work?
The attention to details and the way you worked that shading and the distance effect while using those colors makes this PERFECT.

I love the lighting in the background and on the clouds, looks so peaceful. I think that's what you were aming for, a calm before the storm? :D Conclusion: peaceful, nice colors and lighting.

well, it's probably the most common interpretation, but one can procrastinate on so many other things, too!

Haha, I've actually be procrastinating on commenting on this wonderful artwork for so long. Dammit, where did all the time go! :P

Anyway, straight away the use of colour is extremely powerful. The way the dark purply-blues contrast with the pale pinks is quite engaging; particularly with the heavier clouds and the figure, the distinct perimeters formed between the two colours creates a very sharp, succinct form around each element.

The use of those two main shades themselves is very nice; that set, even colour palette works very nicely to apply the entire scene appropriately in a sleepy blue, downcast mood.

Though, I do feel like having the feature of the top half of the image primarily pink and the lower half blue just adds so much depth to the image, as compared to a more even scene - the image appears to be not just one situation, but two, adding a significant level of dynamic and intrigue to the overall look of the piece. This choice of colour composition is very effective in creating two worlds in one, which will prove to be instrumental with the subject matter.

Of course, the use of colour balance is still very imminent despite this halving, the figure matching quite nicely with the study supplies and the clouds with the similarly pale light, which I feel is nice to create that cohesive link between the two situations on top of the already appropriate colour scheme with two relatively similar tones.

However, sure the fancy colour scheme and composition is nice, but it becomes truly captivating and truly meaningful when paired with the objects.

The two different worlds become all too memorable with their colours.
It's as if the landscape above the study desk is this heavenly, free and open world - the pink really reminds me of a relaxing sunset, the clouds also supporting this serene atmosphere. The figure seems to sit there, extremely content and in a state of peace.
However, of course, below we have this imposing, dreary scene with a heavy amount of blue and dark shade to imply the foreboding, undesirable atmosphere involved with the objects.
That clever use of a relatively flat colour scheme in this section gets across the boring, monotone feel of the study desk even more; the way the blues are essentially all even throughout the scene with the same dreary shadows perfectly conveys the tedious, repetitive, loathsome feeling of work, as compared to the exciting nature of the clouds above.
Combining these two conflicting scenes of peace and boredom very effectively portrays the feeling of procrastination; we're lost and floating in this imaginary world of infinite time and happiness, seemingly relaxed, just trying to distract ourselves from the miserable, dull workload beneath us.

And it's amusing, because interestingly the figure is also of a similar dark-blue shade to the study equipment, which not only helps the previously mentioned colour balance but perhaps implies that although up in her little haven, the character is still drowned out and disheartened by the workload, a miserable burden heavy on her.
This, of course, is so relatably true; we can't avoid those miserable but necessary tasks because they're always plaguing our minds; so we might as well do them now and get them over with.
Unfortunately, it's never that easy, haha!

That's what I really love about this image; the colour's not just there to look pretty, it uses composition to convey feelings and emotions when paired with the objects; it symbolises something, it's meaningful. Truly visual communication.

Again, stunning use of colour choice and colour composition to really portray the action of procrastination.
Awesome work!

Wow, this must be the most insightful comment I've ever received since joining DA ten years ago! Thank you so much for taking the time to think and comment!

As for the colors, I must say that most of the time, I work on them very, very intuitively. But afterwards, when I look back, I might see that hey, perhaps I actually made rather apt choices. Like in this case I knew the color scheme would be mostly blue from the very beginning, but the pink was a surprise. I think making new discoveries as you go along is one of the things that make painting magical, sometimes.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear this work managed to convey more than what is obviously seen in the picture!
