Malfeitor by KainMorgenmeer Malfeitor by KainMorgenmeer
This monster of a drawing (literal and figurative, because it took me over 46 hours to draw and slowly consumed my sanity in that process like it would happen to the main character of a story by Lovecraft) is called “Malfeitor”, like the Watain song. It goes into a slightly new direction compared to the rest of my Art.

The main idea for this work came while listening to Watain. It was my urge to do a visual representation of this song but it was influenced by different other things too and could get another title like ‘Shub-Niggurath’ or ‘Stellavore’, it doesn’t matter. My girlfriend and I have another name for it...

This is a symbolic depiction of something I cannot name accurately (and for the sake of my mind don’t want to either): Primeval things from the depth of the human soul (or beyond), lying dormant in our subconsciousness, only to emerge in nightmares from time to time.
H. P. Lovecraft dedicated his whole literary work to this.

I had dreams of old evil things with tentacles endless like roots sleeping deep in the blackness of the earth and waiting for their time (sometimes they were in space too) since childhood, long before I knew Lovecraft and all those stories. And I am sure many of you have these dreams too.
However, I also wanted to draw a landscape again (after doing something similar in January which I still can’t show you because the book for which it was done is still unpublished) and this motive gave me a good opportunity.

As I said the whole thing took me 46 hours and sometimes I really hated it – the forest with its tiny little rhombi was pure horror beyond human comprehension.
The right upper corner part (the tentacles reaching to space) is partly a nod to another Watain song called “Stellavore” and partly a nod to the epic cover of Sulphur Aeons also epic “Gateway to the Antisphere” by Ola Larsson.

Pen and ink! :faint: I can see why it took you so long! You didn't do it all in one sitting, did you? :ahoy:

Hell no, this took me over one month to do. Mostly Saturdays and Sundays, 5 till 6 hours with plenty little breaks.

You really nailed the sense of cosmic horror here. The insane amount of detail truly paid off!

Woah this is so cool! It would take so much for me to conjure

that amount of patience. I give up way too easily when I get
tired of tedious drawings, but you did a fantastic job :D

Thank you :)
What helps me is to listen to good music while drawing. The work stays somehow tedious but with music it is easier.

See and I just slap the same songs on repeat as I draw, until I feel like I'm gonna explode

Edit: That sounds pretty illogical, maybe I should change up my music

Haha, I have that problem to sometimes. But now I am listening to whole albums so that problem won't happen again.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea (though I have over-listened to a few full albums as well, over the course of several days)

ooh I think game soundtracks might do the trick though

The level of detail is staggering, Im kinda surprised it only took 46 hours and I can bet it nearly drove you mad. On a Hulk painting in my gallery I spent 4 hours just painting his jeans because I was painting the denim weave for some insane reason. I feel ya buddy, but the end result is a thing of beauty to be sure!

Thank you very much. No pain no gain.
Your Hulk drawing is insane! Is this stippled too?

No, I need to upload a hig rez version of it so you can see what I mean but I litterally painted the weave of the denim with a super small brush and then used a xacto knife to scratch away paint to make the loose strings ar the torn edges. It was an act of obsessive compulsive madness. I wish I still had some of my old stipple art. Its so time consuming but man does it end up looking great.

Yeah that would be cool. I'd like to see it.
Sounds really time consuming too

This is wonderful, friend. If you're ever comfortable with it, I would love to hear more about your dreams. Perhaps we could compare notes.
