Customs Wishlist Highlights 2024

Every year I try to get myself psyched up for creative projects for the next one, especially after dry spells like I've had lately. It's just nice to have those little creative goals to look forward to, and while this isn't everything I hope to make it gives you an idea of where I want to fill out the little corners of my collection, because either the "real" things are too damn expensive (Like the griffon from Latitude Zero or MechaGodzilla City) or they were never made, like Onibaba from Pacific Rim, Tatsu from TMNT or weird outliers that I just like such as the Village Monster. I definitely want to finish making the cast of Godzilla The Series this year, that side project has been long, long overdue. So hopefully life will be agreeable and I'll find the time and the change I need to buy the ever-increasing cost of sculpting clay, but I'm looking forward to it. Gonna get rough though if the Monsterverse keeps heaping monsters on us like the Ion Dragon and such So onward and forward with our creative passions.

Good grief, the Monsterverse just keeps piling on the Kaiju...gonna have a lot more customs to have to make in 2024 than I originally expected....not COMPLAINING per say just amazed how far it's come in ten years.

A little life update

Haven't been around much, but just wanted to drop a line and update for you awesome people who have blessed me with following my meager offerings. Been focusing almost totally on getting a commissioned comic project done for my best friend, and it's just a few pages off from being done, but I have been working here and there on Sako, and once the commission project is done I'll be moving on to finish the last stretch of Gallant Girls also.

But I'm also preparing myself for some potentially bad news, hopefully not bad news, but I've been having some weird pain, and my doctor had no answers so it looks like I need to submit to a full scan and see what the results end up being.

It frustrates me to no end that even though I take pretty good care of myself, there's always something. Every year it feels like there's some new complication medically, and I'm sick of it. But, we'll see what's going on. I was tested for cancer last December and it came back negative so hopefully that remains true, but it's the human body, there could be any number of complications, so we'll see. Keeping positive, it just hasn't been a fun week.

But I also have some new developments on comic storylines that I'm very excited about, and some fun projects I can't wait to get to, so here's to a productive and satisfying Autumn.

Unexpected little packages

So I kinda got nothing done this week for a couple of reasons, one being that I've been having some medical issues that I'm gonna be heading into the clinic for in short order, hoping those turn out to not be anything serious, but the bigger issue that's taken up the week was out of nowhere rescuing an abandoned, starving little kitten.

Little dude didn't take long to get attached, and my wife and I being the softy suckers we are decided to go ahead and adopt him, which has taken a lot more work getting him set up in the house than we expected. Confirmed at the vet he is a boy, named him Jasper, and right now he is nothing but a mega ball of energy, so my artwork has been next to nothing, but I'll get myself back on track next week now that we've more or less settled him in.

Just didn't expect a new member of the crew, but that's life, isn't it?

I always feel depressed when I don't have the time to get to my artwork projects, but the last couple of weeks have been busier than most I can remember, including but not limited to tons of family matters, making cosplay for my brother and getting things ready for Godzilla Fest. Looking forward to getting back to work on the comics when I can, but until then if you're heading to Chicago for G-Fest and you see a guy running around in a Zone Fighter cosplay, that'll be me so come say hi :)

A little Life and Projects Update

The year hasn't exactly started off the way I've wanted, but there are good things to report, or at least hopeful. Been doing physical therapy again for the pain in my head and at last have a real answer as to what's going on. It's a condition that's part of TMJ (not spelling it out, it's ridiculously long) which turns out in a tight painful knot of muscle and nerves in my jaw that's spreading pain throughout my skull, mouth and neck, because nerves suck sometimes. With continued work my therapist is convinced that we can heal it without surgery, but it's damned painful in the meantime and makes me not want to do much in my downtime except for sculpting because for whatever reason doing that helps me focus my mind off of the pain more than working on pages, thus why you've seen a lot of clay stuff going on lately. But we're to the point in therapy where they're sticking needles into my jaw and I'm on soft food only, nothing I can chew, so that's fun, yeah. BUT, I'm hopeful we can

It's been a little bit of a week. The last couple of weeks trying to figure out what was wrong with me medically, and it essentially turned out to be that I had injured and stressed muscles in my back through my neck, putting pressures on my nerves and that was essentially where all the pain in my skull was also coming from. Started physical therapy and it's helping, but sloooooowly. Managed to also find two dying kittens outside our house, heard the sister crying her head off, and through a lot of intensive effort bottle feeding, bathing and giving these three week-old kittens as much medical treatment as we can, it seems we've been elected again by fate to rescue cats and they are doing a lot better already, so that's taken a LOT of time and kinda helped take my mind off the personal pain a bit. I feel better a little day by day, but I feel bad when it halts my activity on comics and other projects so badly, especially when I promised that some of the work was going to start getting

You have to stay strong in spirit, dear reader, because life really loves to get in your way. I was happily rolling on the new issue of Sako, some Godzilla Triumphant pages and was starting some new kaiju-oriented custom figures I was very excited about, and then I got hit with some very unfortunate nerve pain in my back, neck and skull, severe enough that I'm starting chiropractic sessions again after a couple years of being relatively pain free. Such is life, I guess, but I guess it's life's way of saying I need to take care of the body first. Patience is a bear sometimes, but we have to do what we have to do and take care of ourselves. I guess it's a good time to enjoy my new Minus One bluray.

Life is insane, but it wouldn't be life if it wasn't I suppose. Finally got my hands on a new car after my old one bit the dust, but I'm also narrowing in a new second job to try and combat rising expenses and paying off said car. While I lined up something nice, unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have no choice but to take on a second full time position, which of course means life is going to be changing for a while. I can't live without working on my comics and stories, so that's not gonna stop, but some things have already had to change for this year. I had intended to make a Titanus Behemoth cosplay for this year's G-Fest, but time and money simply won't allow me to make the suit in time and to my satisfaction. I'll be fulfilling my commission requests I've received, but obviously following the new status quo and working two full time jobs I'll be retiring commissions because there just won't be time or energy. It sucks that we live in a world where most people can't get by

I'm sorry the work basically was ground to a halt this last month, there's practical reasons why it's been that way, but I hate losing time on my projects. Thing is life is looking to be changing in some big ways soon, which I won't go into, but I'm immediately afraid it'll mean that I'll have even less time to work on the things I love, but I hope that won't be the case. To quote an oldie, "On the other side of this trial I'll be a better man". That's the goal, but I won't stop making the things I love, it just may go a little slower. Time will tell.
