I don't know about you guys, but I am BEYOND stoked now! I mean yes, I've been looking forward to this film for ages now, but this second trailer has me so pumped I could probably power several cities with pure, unadulterated joy! XD
Godzilla looks great, Rodan looks epic, Mothra looks beautiful, and Ghidorah looks terrifying, this is gonna be AMAZING! It looks like there are some glimpses of other kaiju, AKA titans, emerging from out of the woodwork as well. That thing with what appears to be LOTS of grasping legs, or possibly jaws, emerging out of the ground looks pretty nasty, probably one of the lesser titans the Alphas or the military will deal with over the course of the movie building up to the showdown between the Famous Four. There's also another burrowing creature that was seen uprooting a forest as it traveled along, could be the underworlder I mentioned earlier or possibly Mothra's larval form. Speaking of which, Mothra's larval form looks great, as does her imago form, I've liked it since I first saw it in model form but seeing it in action it looks even better. I hope other fans will warm up to Mothra's new look as well, but I'll understand if they feel differently since I myself have never been a huge fan of Mothra's more traditional looks (my fave Mothra designs up until now were GMK Mothra and Mothra Leo to be honest). Regardless, I like that she is, to me, still recognizably Mothra, but now appears as does she can actually put up a fight, which was often hard for me to take seriously in the past with her tiny chicken feet and plush animal body. Rodan looks amazing as well, and it seems we'll be seeing a lot of him devastating cities and making short work of air force operatives trying & failing to take him down, fire bird/volcanodactyl for the win! Godzilla and Ghidorah alike are truly wonderful to behold, Godzilla's design may have only been lightly tweaked since 2014 to better reflect his classic looks, but it really works for him, and finally seeing Ghidorah revealed in all his wicked, three headed, twin tailed glory, is truly an early Christmas treat for me. I cannot wait to see Godzilla & Ghidorah thrown down, which is something I really have not been able to say in years since up until now, their rivalry had seemed played out, something Toho went through the motions for because they didn't want to risk losing audiences by pitting Godzilla against new or more obscure monsters. Now however, seeing Godzilla & Ghidorah in this new setting & format, I feel like my passion for their eternal struggle has been rekindled, all the more appropriate given how they are now rival apex predators, or Alphas, having evolved on the same planet, and competing for the same territory and resources, making their conflict more personal than ever before! While Ghidorah's alien roots will probably remain my favorite origin for him, his new origin in the Monsterverse seems to me like the best alternate origin story he's ever had up to this point.
On the human side of things, I like the idea proposed by Ken Watanabe's Dr. Serizawa, namely that humanity has to earn Godzilla's protection if they want to survive this global war for dominance between all the Titans coming out of the woodworks, thats a cool angle. We now know that Serizawa was climbing those steps to meet Godzilla face to face it seems, possibly to make his case for humanity to him, somehow. Millie Bobby Brown continues to impress as well, can't imagine what it would be like to call out for help only to hear Ghidorah's cackling roar over the radio in place of potential rescuers. All in all, I'm very pleased with this new trailer and I'm even more convinced that this flick is gonna be earning a place on the top ten, or maybe even top five, best Godzilla/kaiju film lists of many a devoted kaiju groupie, myself included
What say you all though? Are you even more excited for King of the Monsters now than you were before or did the new trailer fail to impress?
