Before she was the dedicated captain of the Mikanii royal guard, Tliva was a confident young woman who slowly rose up in the ranks as a trainee in the royal guard armed with a shield and Rolisicite tipped spear even if it meant being separated from her childhood friend at the time, Princess Kila. 

(And for those asking, no, she did not have any romantic relationships toward Kila and she still doesn't in the duration of the main story, she's a loyal friend and leader of the imperial guard.)
