Here I go, bumping that long journal off of my front page. ;)

Life & Things

You'd think that I would have a lot of extra time on my hands now that we're not running back and forth to the hospital every other day. At least, that's what I thought would happen.

I was so wrong. XD

I've managed to find plenty of things that need to be done now that we're spending more time at home -- not to mention the fact that Landen has finally started potty training (which we put off because of all the hospital stuff), and that we'll be converting his crib into a regular bed sometime this summer. Fun, fun, fun.

I'll also be going back to college this fall to (finally) finish my degree (if I can afford it), and I have to get reacquainted with the curriculum since UH-D has changed some of the requirements for my major while I was away. Oh, and I have to take the THEA now... which means I've been putting in some study time lately.

Good times.

It's actually a real relief to have a regular routine and be worrying about normal things for a change, though... even if some of it is annoying and tiresome.

Art Block ~ Muse Wanted

Apparently, my muse decided to go on an extended vacation and then he just... never came back -- so if anyone has an extra muse, or feels like loaning me theirs, I would be super grateful. XD

I have a folder (and a sketchbook) full of WIPs, but I am just not feeling it. I want to draw, and paint, and finish up some of these long-standing projects, but my creativity meter is stuck at zero. Not a good feeling... :/

Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Hospital Stuff

Sooo... there's not much to report right now, since Landen is in "maintenance" (the monitoring phase that comes after successful treatment).

We're going to the hospital once a month for follow-up and blood work (to make sure that his numbers are still stable), but that's routine and not a big deal.

Landen did get to ring the bell (signifying the end of treatment) in the clinic on May 2nd... and Dr. Wells and his team presented us with a matted, framed certificate to make it official. They even signed around the matting and added a few Cars stickers -- they know Bug way too well. XD

We also went up to the pediatric floor and Landen rang the bell for everyone that was on duty that morning, which was awesome. We hadn't been upstairs since Bug's last round of chemo, in January, so it was nice to show off how healthy he looks now -- especially since the pedi nurses are the ones that helped him get well, and kept us all sane during some of the longer in-patient stays. After taking care of sick kiddos day in and day out, they deserve to see the results of all of their hard work.

Sounds like things are looking up. Its good to hear that things are going so well for you and Landen. Don't give up on your degree, you're worth it and I know you can do it. Much love.

all good stuff, my dear. it'll be nice to worry about day-to-day life for a change lol
and i'm sure you've been through what i call, the sleeping muse, one or more times before.
although, mine went comatose once ;p

Ah, normalcy.

As for my muse... yes, he frequently passes out in a drunken stupor and refuses to wake up, but this time he's gone too far. I'll be waiting for him with open arms -- right up to the point where I slap him upside the head and tell him not to do it again for a while. XD

That certificate idea is pretty cool. It's great that they make a real moment out of it. Now, for the potty training. Oh boy. :D I don't know why, but that always sounds like this massive feat to me.

Actually it's a bit scary... because the potty training is going really well. I already had him trained to go "number two" in the toilet by this time last year (he's always hated having dirty diapers/pull-ups, so that part was easy) -- and now he's tall enough to stand in front of the toilet and pee by himself, too. He's practically training himself! XD

Now I just have to get him used to interrupting play time to actually go to the bathroom when he has the urge, and we'll be all set. XD

(I think it helps that he's starting a bit late, since I didn't want to try training him when we were still going in and out of the hospital. He's older now, and he understands more of what I want him to do than he might have nine or ten months ago.)

LOL. Kids never want to take a break when playing. It is good that you did wait, though. That's important.

Yeahhhh... honestly, I can't blame him. I'd rather watch cartoons and stack Legos than go to the bathroom, too! I'll just have to start setting an alarm and making him "try" to go every 2-3 hours until it's a routine. XD

And yeah, I couldn't fathom trying to potty train in the hospital, and having to work around the IV pole, and having him hooked up to fluids 24/7 (meaning we were changing his diaper every two hours, at least)... Plus, he was so sick at the beginning of the treatment, I don't think any of the training would've stuck, and then we'd have to try and retrain him-- So, definitely glad that we waited on that. Now it's easier on all of us. :)

Even I wish I didn't have to keep heading to the bathroom. Sometimes I hold out just so I can finish stuff in one sitting. XD
