The trail leads on into the misty wood
Where fairies and ghosts lurk behind
Every shrouded branch
And whispers of long-ago birdsong
Filter through to straining ears
Tread carefully, traveler
Even your red pack is not protection
From the beings that peer at you
With eerie silver eyes
Unblinking from the branches above
And spook the rare living bird
Into flight to escape the
Pending danger ...
Do not stray from the path, traveler
Those woods beyond the trail
Intriguing, enticing and just out of reach
Just a few more steps and ...
Will entrap you forever
While the world moves on
And only the blackbird
Will still call your name.
