As a six-years-later follow-up to my "going pro" post: being a pro photographer is rough. I shot a wedding, helped with some shoots for other photographers, got contracted for portrait and event shoots, and captured many portraits. It paid the bills, but barely – I got caught in the still-worsening "weekend warrior" epidemic, wherein everyone with a new camera thinks they can fit in with the other professionals.
So, I found other ways to make money with photos (by combining photos with other technology), which turned back into making money with just my tech skills, which finally incorporated my management experience and landed me a nice job that has nothing to do with pictures.
Summary: not a pro anymore, just a hobbyist with an okay camera. Check out my newest submissions to see if I've gotten any better. Most of my work will go on SmugMug (kylej.smugmug.com/
), but I'll grab a small selection of images to also post here.
