Description
The Association of the Mad by Choice was a unique and celebrated organization in Takhmanta, created to assist individuals—primarily humans but also members of other inherently "good" or "neutral" races such as elves, fairies, dwarves, and various beastfolk—who struggled to adapt to the harsh realities of life in the city. Takhmanta, a bustling metropolis teeming with demons, werewolves, ghouls, and other monstrous or sinister beings, was an environment that many newcomers found overwhelming, terrifying, or outright alien.
The association became a sanctuary for those who found it difficult to mentally and emotionally endure the challenges of living among the city's grotesque and often predatory inhabitants. The group offered an array of support services to help its members acclimate to the city's darker nuances. For instance, they trained individuals to interact confidently with other races, cultivate bravery, and develop the assertiveness required to navigate Takhmanta's social complexities.
For those particularly empathetic or sensitive, the association provided therapies and tools to cope with traumatic experiences, such as witnessing ghouls feasting openly on the streets or encountering residents whose horrifying appearance could unnerve even the steeliest souls. These therapeutic offerings ranged from traditional counseling sessions to more unconventional methods, including the provision of certain medicines or controlled substances. These substances were designed to awaken the "darker side" of inherently "good" races, allowing them to better fit into the city's unique moral and social fabric by overcoming natural behavioral barriers.
The Association of the Mad by Choice also served as an educational hub, offering "introductory courses" for new arrivals of all kinds—whether demons, humans, elves, or fairies. These courses detailed the rights, laws, and societal norms of Takhmanta, ensuring newcomers could understand and navigate the city's intricate web of customs and expectations. The organization's success was not only evident in the positive transformation of its members but also in its widespread praise and institutional support from city leaders.
The city's parliament often referred new residents to the association as part of a standardized integration process. Its efforts to bridge the cultural gap between Takhmanta’s diverse and often contradictory populations contributed significantly to maintaining the city's precarious balance. It became a symbol of Takhmanta’s commitment to inclusivity, proving that even in a city of chaos and shadows, coexistence was possible—with the right tools and a willingness to embrace madness by choice.
Over time, the association's reputation grew to the point that it became a respected pillar of the city’s social infrastructure, helping Takhmanta evolve into a truly cosmopolitan metropolis where even the meekest souls could find their place amid the dark and monstrous wonders.
Absolutely love this!
