Elizabeth was the second daughter of a nobleman, the head of the Chartoris family. When the king of her homeland died, a fierce struggle for the throne erupted between his two sons. Elizabeth’s family, loyal to tradition and the rule of law, supported the elder son, who by birthright should have ascended to the throne. However, the younger brother proved to be far more cunning, both as a politician and a warrior. After securing two major victories on the battlefield and crushing his brother’s forces in smaller skirmishes, the younger prince seized the capital. He had his elder brother executed, and shortly after, he was crowned the new king.

The ascension of the younger brother marked the beginning of a reign of terror for those who had opposed him. Elizabeth’s family, once prominent in the court, now found themselves marked as traitors. The new king’s forces unleashed a bloody purge against all nobles and supporters of his slain brother, forcing Elizabeth, her parents, siblings, cousins, and even their household staff to flee their homeland. With only the possessions they could hastily gather, they set out on a perilous journey that would take them across many foreign lands.

For months, they wandered, seeking asylum in neighboring kingdoms, but each turned them away, unwilling to risk the wrath of the new king. Branded as enemies of the crown and traitors, they found no safe haven. Along the way, they were repeatedly attacked by assassins and bounty hunters sent by the king, eager to claim the price on their heads. Each encounter brought more tragedy as friends, servants, and even family members fell to the blades of their pursuers. Elizabeth witnessed the slow unraveling of her once-proud family, with each loss carving deeper scars into her heart.

After two grueling years of constant flight, the remnants of the Chartoris family decided to attempt one final refuge: the infamous city of Takhmanta. The journey there was perilous, for the city was hidden deep within ancient forests and surrounded by a wilderness filled with dark creatures and deadly traps. Just before reaching the city, their group was ambushed by a horde of ghouls—flesh merchants who captured Elizabeth’s younger brother, her youngest sister, and her cousin, taking them to a fate she dared not imagine. Many of their loyal servants also perished in the attack, either slain or captured. Elizabeth, alongside the few remaining members of her family, pressed on, their numbers dwindled but their resolve unbroken.

When they finally reached the towering gates of Takhmanta, Elizabeth found herself standing at the threshold of a place that bore little resemblance to the world she once knew. The city's chaotic blend of soaring towers, crumbling ruins, and twisting streets felt like something from a nightmare. Here, black magic was a common tool, and creatures of all shapes and allegiances roamed the city. Danger lurked in every alleyway, and trust was a rare commodity. Yet, for the first time in years, Elizabeth felt a sense of safety she had long since forgotten. In this strange, fearsome city, where the rules of her homeland no longer applied, the relentless hunt for her family had finally ceased. Takhmanta, despite its dangers, offered a form of sanctuary.

Here, among the monsters and outcasts, Elizabeth slowly began to rebuild her life. The horrors of the journey had hardened her in ways she never imagined possible. Though she missed the structure and civility of her homeland, she knew she could never return. Takhmanta was now her home—a place where, despite the ever-present danger, she could carve out a new life and perhaps, in time, find a way to avenge those she had lost.

She’d watched it burn for days, a slow, consuming crimson across the skyline. The distant towers offered no comfort, only a reminder of what was lost- a silent grief clinging to the damp stone as she remained motionless, absorbing the final echoes.
