Dread Wolf by KaanaMoonshadow Dread Wolf by KaanaMoonshadow
Ah, Solas, you lovable egg! Meow :3

I think this is actually the first piece of Dragon Age Inquisition fan art that I've created. I liked the game well enough, but it somehow failed to... grab me, if you will. While I'd objectively call it a good game I never built a connection to it like I did with previous Dragon Age titles, or the Mass Effect series. So there was also no real inspiration or drive to create some fan art... until I started a new game with a Dalish rogue and romanced Solas!

My first Inqui was a human mage and even though she was best pals with Solas already the interaction with the egg became all the more interesting and deliciously dramatic when my Elven lady romanced him, and because I like him and his romance so much we can celebrate some fan art of him today! :D

This artwork shows more work with Zbrush, namely:

- my own Solas face morph
- my own Dread Wolf creature morph
- a pelt object draped over his chest

I have to say that Zbrush is really growing on me, and I plan on using it for some proper modeling soon to learn all its functions so that it can help me lift my art to the next level! :w00t:

Nicely done. I liked the game, but I was constantly in stitches because of the conversations of Iron Bull, Sera and Vivienne. Bull and Sera were constantly coming up with utterly insane schemes, Sera was always trying to get Viv's goat and failing utterly, and I was always laughing.

Admittedly a lot of it felt tedious - my completionist obsession kept me trying to gather stupid wooden horses from all over extensive properties you could never return to, or trying to find glowing shards that were in areas I couldn't seem to reach. But otherwise the game seemed pretty solid. I would guess that my one personal gripe is that for a hetero male player playing a hetero male character I have VERY FEW interesting romance options. Cassandra was pretty much it and she looked like she'd been ridden hard and put up wet - not very appealing. It would have been a tiny bit different if they'd made Sera Bi instead of Lesbian.

I did my first run with a female Dalish mage. Since then I've tried to imagine what else I would try - I've started building several characters but set them aside because I wasn't that intrigued by the idea of playing them. I'm still curious enough though that I want to grab the DLCs that give us more on Solas so we can figure out what the heck was going on with him. I mean I've got a pretty solid idea, but I'd like the whole story, you know?

I was/am considering a second run with a female elf rogue, and using Solas and Vivienne and one of the warrior guys to see how they interact.

Thanks! :D

Aye, DAI was a good game all in all. I just feel Bioware didn't really know how to do Open World/large quest areas well, so many of the larger areas turned very tedious very fast. I mean, whoever greenlighted the continuous 3-minute-mob-respawn deserves an arrow to the knee! CURSE YOU!

I'm a tad worried right now we might never see a satisfying solution to Solas's story, simply because Bioware seems to be in troubled waters since Andromeda's negative reception and "failure". Let's hope I'm wrong, and DA4 will give us another great entry to the series.

Well EA/BioWare aren't going to let a set-back kill them until it KILLS them. Anthem for instance looks cool although it's just another MMO that will get terribly boring once you finish the leveling "story." I don't like doing PvP and I hate doing Raids because I always get targeted if the group is having trouble. And often as not I may in fact be the problem. I'm good enough to play day-to-day stuff, but I can never master the 3-step tango you have to master to fight the raid bosses - that NEVER get used again in any other fight.

The fact that ME had problems makes total sense when you realize that nearly everybody who was involved in the first three games quit when they were forced to re-write the ending of ME3 in mid-stream. The change was insisted on by corp execs who refused to take the blame when their re-write idea failed and shortly after the heat started coming in at the bad ending most of the creative time quit because they were tired of taking the blame for something that wasn't their choice or their fault. All that was left were they guys who wrote the ME3 multiplayer mode and they didn't really have to write much for that. They were pretty much little fish being thrown into the deep end of the pool to see if they'd sink or swim.

Anyways, I haven't yet picked up the DAI DLCs that include more story so I'm curious to see what is revealed in those. I know a major one involved a Qunari invasion, but I know little about the rest.

Yay Solas! <3
My first playthrough I romanced Blackwall. Cos i thought Solas was a snob. but my friend convinced me to romance Solas my next playthrough and now I can't -NOT- romance him. Beautiful piece of art. :D

Heh, yes. I romanced Cullen the first time around, and that was a very sweet and well-done romance. But then I tried Solas, and now I also have a hard time to romance anyone else. Such delicious drama! :giggle:

I wonder if we'll ever get a proper solution for the Solavellan romance? DA4 development seems to go through some troubling waters right now. :| (Blank Stare)

Nicely done! The textures look great, and I really like how you did the face morph, armor, and overall composition! :)
I too romanced the egg on a later playthrough, and it was such a different experience. His romance is so beautifully tragic and well-written; I'm glad to hear it gave you a more enjoyable DA:I game!

Hehe, beautifully tragic is well said. ;)

If they treat him right in DA4 and we might actually get a chance at some proper closure for his romance with the Inquisitor it might actually be one of my favourite romances of all time. I'm glad to hear you like the artwork as a whole! :glomp:

I got lucky; my intellectual pro-Mage Inquisitors usually got along with Solas just fine. ;p I'm glad to hear you like how he turned out! :w00t:

But how did you like DAI? Had a good time playing it? ;)

I have played it through twice. My Disco Elf magician got over Solas - tried to flirt with Cassandra and ended up with Josephine instead. :D I played another play through with a warrior who ended up with Bull :D I like it, but it was something last gen that held it back. It feelt like a converted PS3 game.  I hope they make a new one, it is about time. :D I really like the Dragon Age mythology and world.

I like the mythology as well!

I feel the end of Trespasser teased that the next game might take place in Tewinter, and I'd love that. :D It's time for a snobby Tewinter mage protagonist, if you ask me!!

But it seems there are quite a few conflicting rumours about the Dragon Age franchise. There were some tweets that indicated Bioware is working on a DA title, but not a proper DA4 but rather some kind of new spin-off game? I hope that's not true. I need more RPGs in my life! D:

I'm also very interested to see where Bioware will go with DA4. I hope they won't ruin Solas; they have the chance to create a really cool storyline now, with people being already invested in it after playing DAI. Let's hope Bioware can still make magic happen. ;)

I'm waiting for paperwork with the USCIS so that I may be with my soulmate! :) Until then, it's a lot of work, both with my ordinary work and as a tattoo artist. I'm playing a lot of Elder Scrolls these days though, that and Smite! I do miss the time in Swtor haha, the golden days! How are you??

Hey! :D

I just returned from a long vacation so I'm doing quite alright. ;) I'm glad to hear things are good on your end. That USCIS business sounds very serious and time-consuming, and I wish you all the best for it! :glomp: I also play ESO now and then, and I usually really enjoy it when I do. I had a blast with the Morrowind expansion, for example!

I don't have as much time for gaming these days, though, so my time at TOR has also reduced significantly. But I need to try some new games, too, and it's always good to return after a few weeks.

Thank you! and yeah it's a drag, luckily there are other options that we're looking into, such as getting married in Sweden! as for Morrowind, I thought it was amazingly fun, then again I did play the elder scrolls 3 when it came out back in 2002, so they succeeded with bringing back both nostalgia and new experiences! And soon the Clockwork City DLC will come out, are you looking forward to that?

and yeah I agree with that, not only do I have less time to play, what with both a bunch of work and getting ready for the future! also nice to have a break before getting back to a game so it doesn't burn you out. Bunch of new single player games that's coming out which look's like it's very much worth playing. Like the "detroit become human" and the new south park game. Shame about ME: andromeda, there was so much hype, and even more bullshit circulating that game, that I havn't even touched it with tongs. apparently it went so badly they wont even continue to make updates for it, let alone making a triology!!

:wow: This is awesome. The detail of his armor and his orb are my favorite parts. Love the perspective of his hand being closest to us, too.

Ah, Solas. He broke my poor elvish heart, he did. You and I haven't really had a chance to discuss Inquisition yet, but I found it disappointing in a lot of ways. Trespasser DLC was amazing, though, and left me with a bit more Solas. Sounds like we have a lot of the same opinions, though, (and first playthroughs! ran my human mage with Cullen-mance in mind), I never felt as connected to any of the characters like I did in Dragon Age 2, and I hated letting go of Hawke.

Here's hoping they craft a smaller but more story-driven world for Dragon Age 4!

Thanks, dear! :glomp:

I agree with basically everything you said about DAI. ;) I feel a smaller and more story-driven world would do DA4 much good. It was one of the many things that I didn't like about DAI - how the large Open World and Bioware not really knowing how to present their story as a part of one absolutely ruined the pacing at times. Many maps were just large, empty husks full of fetch quests. I really hope BW paid attention to Witcher 3 and how CDPR constructed their world, they were much better at filling their game with interesting side quests and still keeping the main quest alive!

And of course my mage lady romanced Cullen! :D

It was a great romance, very sweet and mature. But I have to admit that I like the beautiful tragedy that is Solas a tiny bit more; drama always makes for better stories in my opinion. ;p

And the companions in DAI were not bad, far from it. But I never had the impression that my Inqui ever really got close to anyone. None of her decisions ever influenced any of them. Unlike DA2, where I felt my interactions with companions shaped both Hawke's and their world views. Here, they simply did what they wanted no matter what my char said, whether they liked her or not. It gave me the impression that we never really became friends but were more like colleagues at work. Unimpressed

It's a bit strange that the only people whose future you can really influence are not even companions, like Cullen (Lyrium addiction) and Leliana (hardened/unhardened).
