1.- Hello, and welcome to 20 Questions with Fourth Wall Magazine!
What is your real name and nickname?
My name is...um, this IS strictly confidential, right?...Yes? Okay, my name is Doctor Stanley Davidson, but you can call me Stan.
2.- Very Nice to meet you, what is your current age?
3.- What is your alignment in the great never-ending battle of good and evil?
Well, as both a scientist and a superhero, I tend to work to help my fellow man as best as I can.
4.- What is the origin of your powers?
I actually don't have any powers. My superspeed comes from my suit, which I created to help rescue workers arrive to assist people in need as quickly as possible. It links to the mind through the nervous system, and grants the wearer full control of the suit's capabilities. Unfortunately, it seems I made a mistake in its creation. The suit can and will respond to even subconscious desires of the user, provided they don't maintain the required amount of focus. Now, when I lost control of it myself, all it did was cause me to run around and assist people with varying degrees of problems. Others...Well, with others, losing control of the suit could be a disaster. So, for now, I've decided to officially shut down the project. Still, the suit is quite the asset to humanity, so I'm keeping it for myself to use, to help as many people as I can, while continuing to provide as a scientist.
5.- Fascinating! Now, superpowers and such aside, what do you feel is your greatest strength as a character?
I am solely dedicated to the betterment of mankind. As a scientist, and as a costumed hero, I do all I can for people.
6.- Here's what may be a bizarre question: What kind of Universe do you exist in? Is it serious? Comical? Sexy? Noir? Horror?
One rooted in science, discovery, and imagination. Also, definitely NOT sexy...although I've heard tell from some who have gotten better looks at me in the suit that they enjoy how tight it looks. I'll need to consider that if I ever decide to redesign the suit.
7.- A lot of super-people have certain recurring elements of tragedy in their background. The readers would like to know if you do as well. For instance, are your parents still alive and/or did you come from a destroyed planet? Stuff like that.
My parents are both alive, albeit separated. They live in Australia. As for tragedy... ... ...My colleague, Eric Jacobs. He helped me in the creation of the suit, making sure I had the proper equipment and facilities. Unfortunately, when he tried to test the suit after I had, it reacted to his subconscious desires. Eric had a troubled upbringing. Crime destroyed his family. So, the suit took his desires and made him kill criminals. When he regained control, he was changed by the experience, and decided to use the suit to eradicate crime in as violent a manner as possible. I had no choice: I activated the suit's fail safe, shutting it down, and putting poor Eric in a coma. That was months ago. They still don't know if he'll ever wake up from it.
8.- What does your suit run on?
Velocitrom. It's something my old science teacher had discovered years ago, but didn't have the time to perfect, but he thought maybe I could, so he left it in my care. I actually named it myself...I'm told I'm terrible with names.
9.- Do you have siblings?
No. My parents separated shortly after I was born, and neither one has had any other children since.
10.- What is your biggest fear/worst nightmare?
Finding out that I don't deserve the suit. That nothing I do with my life will ever truly help in the long run.
11.- Are you a solo act, or part of a team?
After what happened with Eric, I've preferred to work alone in the laboratory. And as it pertains to being a superhero...well, it's hard to find people who can keep up with me.
12.- Who is your worst enemy and why?
The Heels. It's what the people of Golden Rock River call the more powerful criminals in this city. They all have incredible technology at their fingertips, but they've chosen to use it for the sake of their own greed. I can't stand that. Science should be used to HELP, not to OPPRESS.
13.- Then, who is your best friend?
Eric...although, I don't know if he'll still think of me as his friend when he comes out of that coma.
14.- Confession time; Who is your lover?
I don't have one. My life has been mostly devoid of romance.
15.- Existential question: What would you do if you could ever meet your creator?
I would ask them...Why do so many people hate? Why do good men stand by and do nothing while bad men make the world a worse place? Why are scientific creations abused by those who desire power? And will cellphones EVER have buttons again?
16.- What is your lifelong dream?
To create as safe a world as can be obtained while still maintaining a strong sense of freedom and morality.
17.- What would you do if your dream came true?
Retire a VERY happy man.
18.- As a character, do you have any personal demons or overarching regrets that haunt you?
Aside from what happened to Eric...Sometimes, I wonder if I really deserve to keep the suit. I know I'm using it for good, and that it's dangerous to be given to anyone else, but the fact that I lied to my peers about stopping the project entirely, and that I'm keeping technology intended for legal, official rescue and response teams, it just makes me feel like a criminal sometimes.
19.- What does your "secret identity" do for work?
So far, I've managed to balance both of my jobs out well, but I'm constantly waiting for something to come along and make things much more difficult for one or the other.
20.- Last question, and it's a DOOZY for a super: What is the WEIRDEST thing that has happened to you?
Having the suit operate under my subconscious desire to help save a kitten from a tree. It was strange, and it made me out to be VERY boy scout-like.Done! Now tag some people!
