I see.. I cant tell you how to look at something as a artist.. you have to figure it out yourself with practice and even more patience, like we all do. But I give you some hinds which will speed it up quit a bit.
1. take your time and observe you subject well if it is a photo reference or cup on your desk, you could build it up in your mind with a cylinder and a tube as cup handle
2. If you Paint something try to think in terms of light and shadow.. just say yourself over and over again "that part have to be brighter and that darker and over there is a edge where they connect with a soft/hard edge
3. Paint as much as possible from still life.. you will learn 100% faster
