halloween landscape

Hey all, what is your best method of lightening/getting more detail to appear in the dark foreground, with an image like this? I shot this image with my samsung nv24hd pocketcam (not too great for the dark), then did some standard curves and levels adjustments in PS.
I also posted the regular file in my gallery, see if you can get a better result than I, then tell me how you did it... maybe we can get some discussion going...
