I was trying to escape my thoughts today so I decided to go outside.
I shut the door, put my hands into my pocket & began to walk in stride.
I came across this beautiful bird that starred me in the eye,
so I proceeded to get to know this bird as it cocked its head to the side.
& I said:
Hey Mr. Bird, why is it you don't fly,
what brings you here, where are you going & what do you see in my eyes?
It must be nice
to live a life
flying free as a bird,
roaming the earth, examining the sky, being free but never heard.
Descending down unto this earth waiting to rise again,
but no one tells you where you’re going with the exception of the wind.
Then the bird proceeded to say:
Your no different, in the sense your free,
granted, you can't fly away to escape the things you see.
But you can walk away like you’re doing today in hopes to be set free.
So in this sense, you’re a lot like me just like the rest of humanity,
that live inside this glass box drowning in insanity.
The sky is just a color being driven by the wind,
embedded with emotion and assorted clouds within.
The other birds that fly in this imaginary world,
wish the wind would dissipate beneath there wings & whirl
into this so-called impending life that derides into this blackhole
consisting of these very thoughts that implode within their soul.
These transitory thoughts that are Deep inside this glass box,
consist of transparent words that release themselves in rain drops.
Look up at the sky and tell me what you see.
''I see the stars beyond the stratosphere wanting to be set free''
I see each individual rain drop hidden within the stars,
trying to prevent from freezing so as not leave a scare.
Then he told me, that's your problem, in that you look beyond the present,
you think too much And focus on the things you find unpleasant.
And I said, yes Mr. Bird, but perhaps you don't think enough.
What if I’m right & you’re not real & this so-called life is fluff?
You focus on this bird food & tell me to subside my thoughts,
& I focus on the pain I see & tend to deride my faults.
So what! if you live inside this glass box that everyone can see,
it's not my fault you choose to live like the rest of humanity.
So don't even try to tell me that we seem to be the same,
in that I’m alot like you, free as a bird and seemingly somewhat sane.
Your self-destructive wing clipped biased inferior opinion,
is nothing but a broken thought that holds you in derision.
You give the pretense that you’re happy, but deep inside you want to die,
Your no different than these other stars that orbit around there lies.
If you were a star in which you are striving to be set free,
Then why do you hide behind these words pretending to be me?
Set free from the truth that you live within this prison,
released from all the guilt that reflects just like a prism.
Your confined inside this realm of earth flying in mid heaven,
you think your free, but in reality your committed to your delusion.
CONTEXT: This poem was inspired by seeing all the pain in the world but feeling helpless. Wanting to escape the negative emotion within but feeling imprisoned by my own thoughts. Pretending that I’m happy when I’m not. Remembering past trauma when I would like to forget. The bird is my self-conscience.
Congratulations on your well-deserved DD.
