Literature Text

[(Guess wink wink)!AU]

He walks onto his porch, lights a cigarette, places it against his lips and inhales softly. Relief.

But not for you, for every cigarette he lights is toxins ready to choke you - making the air thick and hazy and you feel sick. He loves you though, does he not? He smiles at the stars and enjoys the moments when the breeze tickles his face. Perhaps, if he knew what he was doing to you, then he'd stop. Maybe do something to counteract the effects - remove the chemicals in the air that are killing you know. Perhaps.

But, though he loves you, he loves the feel of cigarette smoke too.

***

When he received his driving license, his parents congratulated him with a car. It's nothing too show-stopping: a black Nissan Pulbar, 1.2 litre engine, that fits a family or just a lot of drunk friends. He adores it, treats it better than he'll one day treat his own child, and he holds a sentimental attraction to it that prevents him from ever even looking at another car up for sale.

Well, sometimes he considers it. His beloved black Nissan Pulbar, 1.2 litre engine, is one of the biggest producers of NOx. (If you believe the radio... But that surely was just some environmentalist nattering on.) Even if it's really emitting that much NOx, he doesn't see why he has to get rid of the car that's been with him since he was young. Someone else can do their part as well; anyway, he's not the one causing climate change, he has a recycling bin.

What he's not going to understand is how your tears are now toxic because of that Nissan Pulbar which stands in his garage with a menacing glint.

When he was younger, untainted, he used to have friends who danced in the rain. Once in a while, just once though, he'd let himself join them - not dance but run a bit and he found the raindrops just as freeing through that too. That's sentimentality just like the car.

Yet he's making your tears toxic and, if he has children, they'll have to hide from the rain.

***

Levi Ackerman sits by the fire, soothed by the glowing embers of what was once a tree trunk. It wouldn't have the same soothing feeling if he could hear how the trees scream. It certainly doesn't soothe you.

He'll be old and grey one day and it'll be too hot for him then. He'll miss the times of cooler temperatures, blame the government for not doing enough of the fancy schemes or international agreements, before taking a drag off a cigarette and going for a drive to calm down.

But he's not doing anything wrong, it's everyone else who's bringing the world down. Everyone else's contribution.

Not his.
I don't own Levi Ackerman.
I only own my words and my ideas.

A kind of birthday gift to dinosauruses because you said you liked Levi but this fic is kinda :// and also this is like years late sorry about that~~

As for the AU:
- the reader is the earth's atmosphere
ergo your tears are the rain (which is going acid) and you feel sick cause well greenhouse gases and toxins and all that jazz
- this is my geography revision. i have an exam on monday.

So, I really like this. I’ve actually taken an Environmental and Sustainability class this year along with a Marine Science class. Next year, I’ll be taking Advanced Placement Environmental Science. Science is just a passion of mine, and especially the Climate Crisis going on in the world today. So, for one thing, I really like the way this is written because lots of people just deny that they’re doing it. When really, if you drive a car, or smoke cigs, or strike matches, or burn wood in your fireplace, or flush your toilet— That’s pollution and contribution to climate change! And don’t even get me started how there are people who still discuss whether it’s real or not. I could go on a whole tangent about that. So anyway, everyone just kinda denies saying it’s all these big companies and whatever, which I’m not denying, but if you buy from those big companies, you are part of the problem! I swear, people just forget that we have sustainable resources, like Wind Energy and solar energy and Hydro energy! And of course they’re are problems with each one, but they’re sustainable! But people just don’t like the look of windmills or energy panels, and you know all that.
So, sorry about my rant! I love your writing, the story and everything about this piece!
