Chapter 4: Slime in the Underground

It was nighttime as Bunsen was drilling a big hole in the middle of the street while in disguise as a construction worker. The scientist plans on digging hard enough for the Ghostbusters to go down into.

Bunsen was all alone as the others went off to get some coffee and food. Just then, a police car pulls up as a cop named Chief (Fairyland PD) calls out, "Hey, how are ya doing?"

"What? You talking to me, sir?" Bunsen ask the cop as he stops working to speak with him.

"Yeah."

"Right, well, it should be cutting fine now, officer."

"I see...and why are you even cutting?" Chief ask curiously. What is a construction worker doing making a big hole in the middle of the street anyway?"

"Oh...why am I cutting?" Bunsen ask nervously. Not good, how will he tell Chief without making him suspicious and finding out what the Ghostbusters are doing.

"Yeah. Wanna tell me?"

Bunsen needs an answer but luckily, he saw most of the gang, also dressed like construction workers being tough and gruff, coming out of a store with the coffee and snacks. Good timing.

"Hey boss!" Bunsen calls out to Gonzo's group as they came over.

"Hey, hey, buddy! Who told ya to stop cutting?! Did someone told you to do so?!" Rizzo demands acting all tough and gruff to Bunsen.

"Right, hey, did you tell him to stop cutting, buster?!" Miss Piggy demands acting tough to Chief with a frown.

"I did. What are you guys doing out here anyhow?" Chief ask with a frown. Weird, these people look familiar somehow.

"Oh, what does it look like we're doing?" Gonzo demands in the usual tough man voice. "We're working here! How about getting loss and letting us work so we'll let ya do the same thing, huh?! Huh?!"

"Take it easy, easy." Scooter remarks in the construction worker as well. "My pal has been working overtime and I will tell you why, pal! We're all here because some jerk downtown is being a wimp!"

"We gotta work Friday night, right guys?" Kermit remarks in agreement.

"Right you are!" Rizzo exclaims, smirking a bit. "So, Bunsen, is he right?"

"Yo!" Bunsen exclaims as he holds a fist out in agreement, making the group laugh madly.

Looks like Chief has brought the story as he starts his car, saying, "All right, okay. Just take it easy, boys." The cop then drove off and away from the heroes. They sigh in relief. Close one!

"Phew. Close one." Skeeter said, shaking her head a bit. If Chief found out what the Ghostbusters are really doing, they would be arrested for fraud, damage to property, and violation of a restraining order.

"So how are you doing, Bunsen?" Kermit ask Bunsen, wondering how the scientist is doing.

"How have I been doing?" Bunsen ask as if being asked the most obvious question in the word. "While you all have been getting coffee for an hour, I have been making a big hole in the middle of the street. Luckily, I have my own invention to help, otherwise this would've taken hours.

"Wow!" Most of the group exclaims as they look down the dark hole that looks deep and almost bottomless.

"Looks like you've uncovered an old airshaft! This goes on for hours!" Scooter exclaims, impressed with Bunsen's work.

"Looks like one giant rat hole, no offense to myself." Rizzo comments as Bunsen check the Geiger meter to get a reading, which are off the charts.

"Fascinating! I think we should get a deeper reading." Kermit said thoughtfully. "One of u must go down there. Anyone wishes to volunteer? One of us..."

Kermit stops as he notices the others looking at him. The frog looks around and gulped in worry. They have obviously volunteered him to do this!

"Why> Why do *I* have to be the one to go down there?" Kermit ask his friends nervously.

"Hey, you're the thinnest, and, therefore you're the least likely to get stuck." Rizzo said, pointing out a fact to Kermit. As he is the thinnest, the frog is perfect for this.

"But YOU are the smallest, so you wouldn't have any trouble fitting through the opening either."

"But I'm ALSO the most cowardly; a fact I have no trouble whatsoever admitting."

"Then why not Gonzo? He is the one who most enjoys taking insane risks." Kermit protests. Gonzo would love to take insane risks like this!

"Because it would ruin the script." Gonzo said that Kermit must do this to go by script here.

"Indeed. I would normally make Beaker do this, but HE'S already busy getting snacks." Bunsen said as Beaker is still busy getting snacks. Kermit groans, looks like he has no choice.

"Oh, all right, but for gosh sake, PLEASE pull me up if I pull on the rope twice." Kermit said to his friends with a sigh. Looks like a bad night for him!

--------------------

At the museum,. Chuck was doing some touchup on the painting of Gallaxhar as he is working late. But as he does, something unexpected and spooky happen: the painting fire orange lightning bolts at Chuck. He screams while falling off the ladder that he's doing and landing right on the floor.

"Ouch, oh, I'm stinging! Owie, that hurts!" Chuck exclaims in pain.

"Listen to me!" A voice booms from the painting. Chuck looks around confused. Who is talking? There's no one else here but him!

"Who is there? What's going on?"

Chuck turns to give out a big gasp of shock: the painting has transformed into an area with a castle in the background. And up front is the ghostly apparition of the head that belongs to Gallaxhar himself!

"I am Gallaxhar, the Scourge of space, the Sorrow of humans! I command you so shut up and listen!" Gallaxhar exclaims sternly to Chuck.

Chuck gulps in fear as he bows quickly, "Oh right. Command me, Gallaxhar, command me!" The chameleon can sense an evil presence and know that Gallaxhar would most likely kill him where he stands should he refuses.

"On a mountain of skulls in the castle of pain, I sit on a throne made out of blood...which is very disgusting. Ick! Still, what was will be and what is will be no longer! The time of the season of evil is now!"

"Evil?"

"As in coming soon. Anyway, look. Find me a child so I can live in this world again. I will be a kid but hey, whose said you're only young once?" Gallaxhar ask with a shrug. He then returns his painting back to normal, leaving Chuck with the task at hand.

"Right, a child, I got it, a child." Chuck said as he stand up and paces a bit. The chameleon stops, giving out a confused look. "Err, child?"

Without warning, Chuck screams as lightning came out of the painting once more. This time, the chameleon is hit right on the eyes directly. He stood there, stunned for a moment then gave out an insane smile. Gallaxhar has proceeded in taking control of him.

"Oh...a child, yes." Chuck said with an insane smile. His master needs a child to reborn. And the chameleon knows what child will do well...

------------------

The Ghostbusters proceed in connecting Kermit with a fire back at First Avenue then they lowered him down into the hole. The frog wears a headset to communicate with his pals at all times.

"Remember, drop my frog and I'm dropping you." Miss Piggy said, giving out a strict warning to Gonzo.

"Right, right. So Kermit, you all right down there?" Rizzo spoke into a walkie talkie as he speaks with Kermit.

"Yeah, I'm good, hoo boy." Kermit said as he is slowly being lowered further underground. The frog looks around the place. "The speed is going, keep it going. Breaking through...oh! I see some light!"

Kermit spots a light at the bottom and arrives in some sort of chamber. The frog in shock and amazement exclaims, "Wow! I'm in some sort of chamber, title work is here...and slime!"

"So what did you see, Kermit?" Gonzo ask into the walkie talkie anxiously.

Kermit checks the chamber as he hangs above a river of pink slime that is flowing through a subway tunnel as if some sort of river. This stuff must've been down here for a long time!

"There's a river of slime down here, must be 25 gallons of this stuff! It's flowing through here like some sort of river!" Kermit exclaims amazed. The frog spots a sigh above the tunnel that said where he's now. "Hey. It's the Jim Henson Memorial Pneumatic Transmit! Hi-ho! Can't believe it, this must be the old pneumatic transmit system. And it's still here!"

As Kermit is lowered a bit, the frog instructs the others, "Okay, now, whoa. That's good. Hold me up, hold me up, good!" The frog stops going down. He doesn't want to fall into the river of slim by mistake as Kermit intends in getting a sample for the Ghostbusters to examine.

"So, Kermie, did you see anything?" Miss Piggy spoke into the walkie talkie. The Muppets were focused that they failed to see a familiar cop car pulling up.

In the chamber below, Kermit took out a mechanical snooper as he send it into the slime. With a smile, the frog said, "Now then, time to get a sample!"

Just then, above ground, Chief came out of the car with an annoyed real construction worker named Bif who demands, "Hey! What's going on here?! What are you doing?!"

Rizzo looks annoyed as he puts on the act again, "Hey, what gives in interrupting us here?! You want to roust me again, huh?! We're trying to put 3000 phones in the village over here!"

"Yeah, we got 8,000,000 miles of cable that needs shaken!" Gonzo exclaims in agreement. "What, you guys trying to shake my money tree again or something?!"

Bif however frowns as he ask while pointing to some phone lines in the distance, "Hey, what are you talking about? The phone lines are over there!"

The Muppets looks concerned but the gang aren't giving up now. Miss Piggy pretends to be upset with some of the gang as she pretend to hit Bunsen, scowling, "Hey, what did I say?! Phone lines are over there! What did I say?! How many times?!"

"Well, you weirdoes can drop the act!" Chief interrupts Miss Piggy frowning. "You aren't with the construction place or the phone company. We checked. So mind telling me another story, huh?"

The Muppets looks worried. Their story is falling apart. Gonzo, in hopes to save the gang, spoke up, "Uh...we got a major gas leak here! What? Where do you think this stuff comes from? The sky?!"

Back underground, Kermit got his slime sample while smiling. That should be enough. Just then, the frog saw something that made him gasps in alarm: the slime is forming and is reaching up at the frog, trying to grab him. This stuff is definitely supernatural!"

"Hoo boy, fellows? You can pull me up now. There's something wrong with this stuff. Guys!" Kermit calls out through his headset as he pulls on the cord nervously. The frog screams while moving. The slime is getting dangerously close to getting him! "GAH! HELP ME, GET ME UP; GET ME UP!!!"

Kermit's voice is heard over the walkie talkie, making them yelp in alarm. In the argument with Chief and Big, they've almost forgotten the frog. They've got to get him to safety!

"Hey, start, start moving!" Rizzo exclaims to Skeeter who, along with Beaker, starts the machine up to get Kermit pulled back up to the surface.

"Guys, girls, hello!" Kermit exclaims as he is finally pulled out of the chamber and is heading through the hole. "Hey, what's going on up there? Get me out of this hole! Argh!"

As Kermit struggles while he is pulled to safety, his flipper hits a pipe by accident, setting it loose and knocking the thing downward. To make matters worse, the pipe hit a power wire below hard, causing a chain reaction as in Muppetatopia has gone dark, loss of power for hours!

------------------------------------------

Camilla has light a few candles at her apartment. The chicken suspects that the Ghostbusters has caused the sudden power outage. She hopes that they're all right, along with Gonzo. The chicken heads into Timmy's bedroom to check up on him.

Camilla smiles as Timmy, in his Cream the Rabbit footie pajamas, is sitting up in bed. Even the baby chick is curious about the power outrage

"Sweetie, hey, hello. Go back to sleep." Camilla said smoothly to Timmy, allowing the chick to get tired enough to return to sleep. Just then a knock came at the door, much to her puzzled nature. "Who is it?"

"Hey. its Chuck, Camilla." A familiar voice spoke. Camilla sighs as she goes over to the door, unlock it and open the door, showing Chuck outside the apartment.

"Chuck, hey. What a surprise."

"Ja, ja, it is. Hello. I just happened to be in this neighborhood and saw the whole city went off. Thought I would stop by to see how you and your baby chick is doing...because of how dark it is."

"We are doing fine, thanks." Camilla said a bit uneasily to Chuck. The chicken felt this way around the chameleon, as if there's another reason why he's here at this time of night.

"You okay, that's good. So how is the baby?" Chuck ask curiously, asking about Timmy.

"Well, my son is okay too. Hope you heard that the first time."

"Cute little guy, hey there! Woo-ooh!"

"He's sleeping right now, Chuck." Camilla said to her boss worried. The chicken would rather close the door and have him leave right now.

"Oh, sorry, sorry. So need anything? Ja; All right if I come in and help you until power come back?" Chuck ask Camilla with a creepy grin that is enough to make Camilla's feathers stand up in terror.

"Well, to be honest, no. I am actually going to get ready for bed myself. Plus, I doubt we will be getting power back tonight."

"Ja ja. Well, thought I would check up on you. Well, good night and don't let bugs bite."

"Yes, night, Chuck." Camilla said as she closes the door, locking it. Creepy! For some reason, the chicken felt like something is not right with her boss for some reason!

And she is right. Outside, Chuck is taking his leave. As he walks down the wall, bright lights came out of his eyes big time...

Author's note
Very creepy...and our heroes are in big time. In the next chapter, the Ghostbusters are on trial, being judged by Judge Joseph A. Wapner with Rachel Bitterman prosecuting. And just when it looks like our heroes are done for, ghosts from the judge's past came back to attack and it's up to the heroes to stop him. Read, review and suggest!

The Chief is from the Fairland PD sketches of "Muppets Tonight", from the UK skits.

Bif is an Anything Muppet construction worker who appeared at a 2010 press event promoting Sesame Street Safari of Fun, a theme park attraction at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

Timmy wearing Cream the Rabbit footie pajamas is a reference to Oscar wearing Winnie the Pooh footsie in the film, and Cream was portraying Pooh in some of my fanmakes.
The Ghostbusters, violating their restraining order, dig a hole n the middle of the street and send Kermit to investigate what's going on in there, finding a river of slime. Meanwhile, Chuck finds himself under the thrall of the evil Gallaxhar.
