The first rays of the sun burn down on the scorched earth as a new dawn rises. Hard-shelled sessile reptiles quickly retract their unprotected sensory organs. Small flyers, too fast to see, dart to their cave-homes in a streak of color. In the midst of this frantic escape from the light, something stirs in the coarse underbrush. A strange sight emerges into the morning light. It moves in a cumbersome fashion, supporting its mass on two pillar-like legs as well its puffed up behind. Where its face should be, ten tentacles and a trunk-like nose sprout in between four fatty cheek flaps that help in releasing excess body heat into the environment as well in the retaining and storage of moisture. Two arms protrude from under these flaps, two pincer-like claws enabling them to grasp and manipulate their environment. Despite being grotesquely distorted and bloated, it still retains some of its ancestors’ traits. A small curly tail wobbles up and down as the creature awkwardly makes its way through rows of hard-bodied plants. It might not look like much, but this eyeless creature belongs to Terra’s new rulers.
While the term "ruler" may only be used loosely here as they only inhabit some of the damper coastal regions, they are Terra’s most intelligent species, able to solve problems and fashion simple tools. Even though their simple society is still based on hunting and gathering, they hold all qualifications to truly conquer their home planet… were it not for the sun that seems to grow bigger and hotter with each day.

Just an idea maybe you could try it

I just don’t know what I could do with it that would really be new as most eusocial insects and a lot of concepts for speculative eusocial animals are rather similar

Ok well I guess I could just try it myself

Go for it! I’d love to see what you come up with

Is it... A pig? Or a chameleon? Either would be incredible.
juniorWoodchuck's avatar
It is the highly derived descendant of our porky friends

Chameleons would be more badass. Everyone knows evolution is driven solely by badassery.
juniorWoodchuck's avatar
That is very true indeed...
How else could someone explain the existence of slugs?

Let alone barnacles.
juniorWoodchuck's avatar
Well barnacles are kinda badass

Only the ones with interesting features, like penises over twice the size of their bodies.
juniorWoodchuck's avatar
Well even normal ones are pretty cool... I mean they are crustaceans that look like clams and literally cement their foreheads to stuff

looks like some sort of descendant from a star nosed mole. Its so scary! :beatadeadllama:

Thanks :D
This one’s a pig though… I would have probably given it nose-tentacle-derived limbs if it was a star nosed mole

Ah! Don't you just love making sophonts, so heavily diverged and derived from their ancestors they look like members of a whole other phylum?
