My thoughts on Japan Sinks: 2020.

Hello everyone and Welcome to the house of Jumbo The Frenchman, today im going to talk about my thoughts on a Netflix Science SARU anime based on the 1973 Best Selling Disaster Novel by Sakyo Komatsu which has gotten 4 Adaptations along with a Parody where the world sinks except Japan i personally enjoyed them but the priority of this video goes to Japan Sinks: 2020.

Let's start my honest thoughts on Japan Sinks: 2020, here we go.

I watched Japan Sinks: 2020, and it was pretty much emotional and jawdropping.

It's an anime based on Japan's Bestselling Disaster Novel of 1973 by Sakyō Komatsu

The novel has been adapted into 4 Motion Pictures (2 Movies and 2 Series) and 1 Manga.

When it comes to famous novels being adapted to motion pictures, i have something to address about The Last of the Mohicans and Japan Sinks.

They both have animated adaptations (RAI and NETFLIX)

They are both best-selling novels being adapted into Films and Series.

But the main difference is that only Japan Sinks has a parody called "The World Sinks except Japan" while The Last of the Mohicans has none.

After the release of Japan Sinks: 2020 it received positives from critics and mixed reviews from Audience and some negatives from anime fans because of the Animation quality and keep in mind that Masaaki Yuasa was still part of the Science Saru company at the time when the series was released.

In 2023, Masaaki Yuasa stepped down as CEO of Science SARU and was replaced by his successor Masanori Fujita

Finally, on June 19, 2024, TOHO Company Limited bought all of the shares of Science SARU and turned the whole thing into a subsidiary of the TOHO Company.

The series has also received criticism from Japanese Audiences for its condemnation of Japanese Nationalism while receiving praise from Western Audiences for Multiculturalism and inclusiveness and even if it received Mixed Reviews, the series was named as the best anime of 2020.

In 2021, during the international Annecy Festival of France, the first episode of Japan Sinks: 2020 was awarded the jury prize, and the series as a whole received 2 nominations at the Crunchyroll awards of 2021.

In July of 2020, Japan Sinks: 2020 reached the top 10 of the netflix series in Japan or other countries, including France.

In this series, we have the main character who is underrated, and her name is…Ayumu Mutoh.""

Ayumu Mutoh is very underrated, and here is why.

1: She is only 14-15 years old and a middle schooler.

2: All she did was try to escape despite the extreme harsh conditions and loss of her parents

3: she was trying to understand what was going on while helping others, including her brother Go, and when she realized that her mother is a heart patient and she got off the boat to stay on her side

Overall: I feel so terrible for Ayumu. She has been through a lot.

All of the loss she experienced,her parents,friends,almost everyone and her left leg and she is just a little girl trying to live her life but ruined by the Sinking of Japan (She deserved better).

What hits me even more is the mother and daughter crying scene in Episode 5 as they are scared of having no one left and nowhere to go. They are heartbroken

I couldn't help but feel terrible for the Mutoh family and the others for losing so much.

Then we have the Youtuber of this series known as KITE.

Who is also the most popular character of this series, as I've seen fanarts of him and Haruo around the Internet.

But he is a good character too.

One of my favourite scenes in this adaptation is The Brother and Sister moment in Episode 8 as they get along with each other as siblings.

As for Haruo Koga, he sacrificed his life for that cartridge.

Also, one of my favourite scenes is also the scene where Haruo Koga runs to the cartridge with incredible skills.

Unfortunately, he wasn't lucky to survive, so he tossed the cartridge to Ayumu as he knew he wouldn't survive.

however, i wanna address something about the scene between Haruo Koga and Kite the scene

Japan Sinks: 2020 is the most depressing netflix anime i've ever seen in my entire life and i've never been more shocked to see an anime like this even if it's made by science SARU now my mind has been Invaded by the story of this series and the torment Ayumu has been through.

If I ever met her, I would give her a comforting hug like all human beings do. I felt the same way when I watched The Last of the Mohicans back in 2023.
