Valentine's Day by julvett Valentine's Day by julvett
I hope you don't mind the sad ending... or at least it's supposed to be sad. FYI that card was supposed to technically be platonic. Lily signs everything 'Lots of love'.

I can barely type right now, I worked on two comics this weekend... one is a Lily/James one that won't be posted until the 23rd, and then there's this crud. Just try to ignore all the mistakes, I just scribbled it on my tablet.

PS: Snape is really just mad because Lily got a ton of valentines from boys. James and Sirius also cleaned up pretty well, as you can see. :P

Sees you used the word "platonic", and I dabble in philosophy, so initially I want to say that you use the word wrong, but after a moment, I see that you didn't. There was a reason why "platonic love" is a word; Plato did kind of explain love in a somewhat similar sense. But I digress.

That was a sad ending, but I kind of like how Lily actually caring enough in their interaction and choose not to show her valentine card she had made for him. It's just the smart thing to do, really. I've just discovered you through browse, so I don't actually know their characters, but I get that Lily is a lovable heroines to root for. Keep up the good work!

(Or was it a fanart? I haven't read Harry Potter (and I really should, probably), but I see the name Snape, and that it included in collection of such fanart, and was that Harry that pranks some other students with flying chasing valentine loves? If so, tell me how wrong I was for not reading Harry Potter, and maybe I would stop reading shitty webnovels and instead finally read my Harry Potter books that were just lying on my shelves, touched by everyone in my house except me)

That was James Potter, not Harry, but believe me, you are NOT the only person to make that mistake! In the third book Harry mistakes HIMSELF for his father, FCOL. Lily is Harry's mother and Snape is her ex-best friend. They grew apart because he was interested in the Dark Arts, which she was against.

Listen, I love the art work. the story is poignant,

"The night is dark and full of terrors"...
(this is my cue for My yammering about something that sounds really negative - despite being painfully true.)
I have met a dozen ladies who use (abuse) the word "love" without any thought to the meaning of the word. One, I actually did fall for... stupid me. I should have known.

As a naive young man searching for genuine connection when I was regularly compelled to associate (because of my job, my favorite hang out, a shared Roll playing game hobby, etc.) with a cute lady who continually says "Love" to me and the confusion on my part is bound to happen.

no, let me rephrase that.
A broken heart is going to happen... mine.
Was it fair? no.
Was I being led on? yes.
Was the casual "turn of phrase" actually hurting me, every time she said NO, to me and then dated someone else? OH HELL YES!

The thoughtlessness of abusing a word with such an awesome meaning is in my opinion, equal to the the difference between a violent rape and a couple intimately making love.

Neither is the empty abuse of the word "love" or the act of rape, a real expression of any: feeling, connection, intimacy, sharing, or union. Nope, both acts are: empty, meaningless, hollowing, cruel, painful, abusive, SELFISH, EVIL acts of manipulation: the seeking of self-gratification at the expense of another - WHO MEANS NOTHING TO YOU.

this is how women can rape a man, ENDLESSLY.
He tries to create a relationship with you, and you say "love you" "love this" "love That" "Love it" with abandon - while consistently rejecting him. while constantly seeking someone else... someone "better".

HE IS RIGHT THERE! HE DOES CARE! HE DOES WANT YOU! He can't stop doing nice little things for you, he has opened himself up to you! (no matter how you keep hurting him)

You pretend to not notice. The truth that you won't admit is that you enjoy stringing him along for all the drama it can create. This unrequited love can go on for years, hell, for me it was a more than a decade! Wow, that is so great an experience for her! she can actually crush a man's dreams, ruin his life, and shred his soul. You can drive him to commit suicide-

because, you do not actually love them at all...
IsolatedPsycho Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
okay bud, here's the thing.

people can say love and mean it platonically. just becase you're friends with someone doesn't mean that they automatically owe you their affections. that's not how anything works.

and to add on to seraphinwings's standpoint, the whole "abusing the word love is like rape" branch of your argument is complete rubbish. you can't "abuse" a word, first of all. it an be overused... but not abused. secondly, loving someone without reciprocation is completely different from nonconsentual sexual acts. one is due to emotions for one person not being returned, while the other is a violation on one's rights. there's no comparison.

yeah, i know. unrequited love sucks, but people don't owe you diddly-squat. it's your own choice to either whine about it, or suck it up and take it as a learning experience.

Britney Spears Oh oh bruh... you have a serious entitlement/"nice guy" complex. On top of that, you contradict yourself by saying you "love" the artwork and go on to rant about how people use and abuse the word so "emptily". Gee, who knew people could use the word love to describe different levels and meanings of interest? I guess only you can use the word so easily and women really have to mean it in your presence Oh Brother... . And I'm laughing at your sig, "sex is not love"? How can someone as immature as you say that, yet act like the word love must exclusively, invariably mean more than the physical act of sex? Yet again, who knew sex could be done in different levels ex casually, FWB, rebound, within marriage, etc?? lmaoooo
You can love your parents, love your cat, love pizza but that doesn't mean that you'd date/fuck them all. And I'm sure you know this but you would just rather blame women for their use of the word as it is in their right to be used, freely.

Please understand that women don't owe you anything, and if this person was friends with you for the 10 years you had this obsession with her, why don't you just cherish the fact that she was friends with you for so long and move on?

Though you might be a lost cause already because of that wild reach about rape. You can't seriously say that someone saying they love you (as a friend) is the same as physically violating another person's body for power/control/humiliation. Do yourself a favor and get out of your "woe is me, women are amazing until they don't let me smash and then they are hoes" phase and learn how to be a genuinely nice guy. Thanks xoxoxo

oh wow, Damn. We have got a bad ass over here! Yet, me thinks the "lady" doth protest too much.
READ CAREFULLY, if you can.

I can enjoy, I can Like, I can be pleased, I can be inspired, I can be moved, I have the opinion that XYZ is good, tasty, delicious, artful, graceful, pretty, romantic, intense, powerful, etc.
none of those words are equal to what "Love" is in MEANING. Love may have varying degrees, but the meaning is an absolute.
NEVER forget that for language to serve the purpose of communication, the words used must have a meaning and many words together create a "context".
Do I love my cat? sure.
Do I LOVE-LOVE my cat? oh hell no.
it appears that you have no experience with which to understand the context of what I wrote.
either that, or no empathy.

Me, immature? oh ho ho ho.... no.
 ...And I take it that:
A. you have never had your feelings toyed with,
B. you never have been lead on, or lied to,
C. that you have never been taken for granted,
D. that you never have had your affections abused..?
E. That you have never truly loved, and been rejected for it?
F. you have never been mocked for sharing your true feelings?
and thus since you have never experienced it, it is impossible for others to have suffered in that way?

Your opinion reads as "Rejection is a fact of life. there are people who just need to realize that they don't deserve love. if they don't realize the fact that they aren't worthy... well, shit happens"

OH WISE woman, please Forgive me for being resentful of those who did abuse my foolish affections.
I should have known that I was absolutely unworthy and never capable of earning affection in return.
When you wear my shoes, you will take all your words- shove them up your- and you will shut the f up.

Try to have some empathy for someone who actually has "Loved and Lost",  you, who has never, ever, truly loved at all.
well, maybe except yourself...

To quote you, "You can't seriously say that someone saying they love you (as a friend) is the same as physically violating another person's body for power/control/humiliation. "
And I say "YES DAMN IT! because knowingly using false pretenses and lies to get what you want, is seeking POWER/CONTROL/HUMILIATION of another person. it is WRONG!"
Go away, and grow up princess. you've had a free ride from all the men in your life, and you think that's a perfectly fine thing to not give anything in return? NEWS FLASH, no it is not. if you tell someone you LOVE them you had damn well better mean it, and by that I MEAN L-O-V-E.
Don't be so common as to cheapen the meaning of love.
Get it through your head, Sex is Sex. SEX IS NOT LOVE.
If you are having sex with someone else while you are married, do you think you can say you love the person your married to? because I do not.

A feminist is demanding a "women's stipend" of Teddy Rosevelt, Teddy stops her and asks, "would you have sex for a dollar?"
The feminist, "oh no. absolutely not! what kind of woman do you think I am?"
Teddy, "Ma'dam, we have already established that fact, we are now negotiating the price"...

Me thinks you are very, very, common, and thus... very very very very very cheap.
seraphinwings Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2018  Student General Artist
I wonder if your so-called wife knows this is how you think ORRRR you're lying about being married in your bio bro... though if she's ok with being married to an extremely disturbed, pseudo intellectual neckbeard I don't know what kind of person she is but I think she could do better. :/

Rejection IS a fact of life dude, but I never said you weren't deserving of love. I'm saying get over yourself. Right now your line of thinking is that men deserve a relationship from the woman that dare show any sort of affection, platonic or no, towards them. That's flat out wrong. To you, you are the only one who can show any variety in the meaning of love.

"I can enjoy, I can Like, I can be pleased, I can be inspired, I can be moved, I have the opinion that XYZ is good, tasty, delicious, artful, graceful, pretty, romantic, intense, powerful, etc.
none of those words are equal to what "Love" is in MEANING. Love may have varying degrees, but the meaning is an absolute." LMAO THE MENTAL GYMNASTICS IS CRAZY HERE AND THROUGHOUT YOUR ENTIRE DIATRIBE

If "love"'s meaning/levels can vary, that means its meaning isn't absolute!!! I'm dying here. You give great examples of the varying levels of love and then you screw yourself over. This is the clearest evidence that you are an entitled man child.

If you think you've even slightly insulted me or hit home with me in any of your "personal" attacks to my character, you are sorely mistaken. Way to expose yourself as a slime ball online though. I'll consider praying for you. Peace!

okay, for those with VERY VERY VERY VERY SMALL minds:

1. I am married.
2. listen, cheetos teeth, talk about my wife like that in person and you'll have a free "curb" dental plan.
3. I am well aware that relationships must be built over time. I am aware that love is a bond that is mutually grown and for love to flourish for the rest of one's life - it must be exclusive. Are you aware of this?
4. you have expressed an attitude, that your opinion of LOVE is, "if you love me buy me a Ferrari". only to be followed with, you saying, "its over" because you got yours and pfft! nothin' else matters.
4. Love is not a whim, love is not sex, love is not a willingness to have sex with - just so you can understand.
5. LOVE is not an obligation. so take the "i'm just a girl" angst and stuff it. When you play with someone's heart - when you lie for long enough...  You are going to hurt someone. just because a guy doesn't start spouting streams of blood doesn't make the wounds any less. If you break someone's heart hard enough for them to commit suicide - you may as well have MURDERED them. Sometimes the greatest pain lay in the wounds that you can not see, fyi.
6. Words have meanings. Meanings are not quasi-flexible-whims. anyone who plays with language is trying to make you believe a LIE.
7. I want you to understand that Love has an absolute meaning, that the meaning of love is not subject to whim or horniness... so sorry, no.
8. Words have meanings, words together create CONTEXT. do you know what CONTEXT is?
9. What is the definition of LOVE to you? do you even know? because so far, you are saying love is a privilege that has to be BOUGHT. That privilege in turn somehow equates to an entitlement for sex, put another way, "You need a ticket to ride this ride"  is that what you think? because that is really very sad.
9. Oh I did. I have you pegged. you can't say anything now except "You sunk my battleship" and cry.
10. go ahead, go put your head in your pillow and cry. Cry, because you think words, like love, do not have any specific unique meaning. its all a whim for you in your little world.
with that kind of thinking, can you have a relationship with anyone that isn't inflatable or needs batteries? I don't think so.
Trust-Is-Holy Featured By Owner Feb 16, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
Before I block you, I just want to say:

I am a man. I have been lied, cheated, abused by people I've loved before.
This does not mean that I am entitled to women loving me. This does not mean I am entitled to sex, or any form of contact with a woman whatsoever. I have a girlfriend now, we love (yes, love) each other very much. There's mutual respect, and if she does not want sex, I respect that decision. It's not that hard, nor is it abusive.

Getting close to a woman only to expect that shes going to give a damn about you is the stupidest thing you could do. She is a person and chooses whom she cares about. If that happens not to include you, you can try as you might. She's not gonna like you. That's not HER fault. That's YOURS for spending time on someone who has already rejected you and now probably hates you because you're a pushy asshole that doesn't know how relationship or even emotions work in the slightest.

Now, go fuck yourself. I came here for a funny Valentine's comic and found a sexist. You're the scum of the earth.
seraphinwings Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2018  Student General Artist
It's funny you say words have meanings but nothing coming out of your mouth/fingers is makes any legitimate sense, and you say you're a writer... you of all people should know how words can have multiple meanings. There is a thing called wordplay, you know? I'll do a bit of it at the end at your expense, if you need an example.

Show me exactly where I've said love is something that has to be bought, or is an obligation? Because I have said no such thing to even suggest it. You're projecting.

I'm a happily engaged woman with the perfect version of a real nice guy fiancé who deserves all my love. Why? Because he respects me. He does not expect sex from the presents and things he buys me, and I don't expect presents or demand them either. His affection, his personality, just himself is all I want or need. He takes care of me and listens to me, and supports my decisions, I do the same in return for him. Love, in this situation and context, is choosing to care for someone through their flaws and through sickness and health. If I did not truly love him, I would never have said I did. It took me a few months even before I told him I loved him, just to be completely sure. In that situation, I do understand the weight and take it very seriously. However, that does not mean that a reaction to a "fake" or "empty" version of the word should be as entitled and downright toxic as how you behave towards it.
Saying you love something or someone outside of a relationship, as with friends, is in an entirely different situation and context.

You said previously that you love your cat, but you do not love-love your cat, and therefore you know exactly what I've been trying to say the entire time about love having variations to its meaning. You just don't want to admit it, and as I've said before, you just want to blame women for not using the word by your standard of correctness or weight. You dance around that fact with over dramatizations and comparisons to rape and murder even though these things could never be equals. You're just a hypocrite living in an echo chamber.

I know exactly how context works, "cheetos teeth". Whatever that means. By the way, your insults are as archaic and nonsensical as your entire rant here. Ya really know when you're talking to a neckbeard when they pull out the old english in an attempt to insult "with intellectual class" or whatever. Get thee over yourself. Let your obsession go, if you really are sticking to your "married" claim, and focus on your wife instead of this other woman. For someone who fixates on the suicide/murder comparison, did you die? Am I speaking to a ghost? Nah. You're too immature to understand that the person who would commit suicide over something like that made the choice. Not the woman. Let me guess, have you used the threat of killing yourself to scare a woman into dating/giving you what you want? If so, you're abusive as well as a self obsessed edge lord ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Grow up, sir.
