You can go ahead and say that The Simpsons should have been called off two decades ago and you may be right but I’m fascinated by the way the long-running nature of this show means you can actually see a changing set of cultural norms being filtered through this unchanging family, like in 1990 you had 10-year-old troublemaking underperformer Bart Simpson being left to his own devices to try and pass the 4th grade with no meaningful support system and then in 1999 you had 10-year-old troublemaking underperformer Bart Simpson being forcibly put on medication to deal with a textbook case of ADHD and still having no meaningful support system.
