Conscientious Objecters

Ironically, the Hippies (capital H) are the most warlike population for six galaxies out. Have you ever been hip-checked?? Brutal!

Anyway, hippies (lowercase h) get a bad rap for being lazy bums, but these kids have guts to spare. Objecting to the villain who conquered your planet and farmed out your people as an evil army is actually illegal (I mean it’s legal if you’re on the other guy’s planet, which they weren’t. An exchange program would be nice), so they and all their pals in the interstellar ex-minion commune have been on the run ever since they did it. Incredibly cool.

The conflict of this episode is that the gang find out he’s Wander, THAT Wander, and instead of giving a hero’s welcome to the patron saint of their Whole Thing, they tell him to get out of here right now because they’ve crunched the numbers and figured out that his turbulent presence in this galaxy has CAUSED way more warfare than it’s ever stopped. And they’re not even wrong!!!

I mean, it’s fine in the end and they all become BFFs but not until Wander has been through a few things emotionally and an epic climactic brawl has occurred between Sylvia and Bunny there (you can take the fist out of the fight, but…he never actually breaks the peace sign but get him mad enough and he paws the ground and charges head-down like a bull).

These are the best character designs I’ve ever come up with in my life and I’m not gonna pretend I don’t know that.
