' before'

Terracotta/ iron oxide/gold and bronze patina
h.77cm x w.65cm

The second work explores what it is to be… just ‘before’ a choice is made. The figure is bound by ties of restraint, or fear or lack of knowledge. The bow is held ready to be lifted. The disguise is in place.
The joker can choose to lift off the mask of pretence or remain in a state of avoidance and laugh off the opportunity till another day.
A breath is taken in and a decision is made. The internal is transformed into an external experience.

We await the will to begin.

That's just the thing Jay....I hope my new ideas don't burn out or get dissipated before I get a chance to begin. It seems that many artists challenge themselves with this problem.

..or weaken in the very act of creation. Not such a problem for those of us who cook fast, but for someone like you who must labor long in making art, I see how it can be a challenge.

Damn I thought it WAS copper/bronze, or wood even. Nice work.

Thank you sentimentalfreak...just clay....and a real challenge to construct given shrinkage problems. I had a look through your gallery. Your images are very beautiful and skilled in their execution but what happened to the 3d work?

3D as in clay or digital? All my stuff is 3D in this gallery, I just haven't done any for a long time, clay either for that matter.

I can imagine those detached-connected pieces like the violin being tricky to dry without cracking. I am still amazed at the patina effects you manage to get.
