This is cover art I did for the Long Hidden Anthology: Speculative Fiction From the Margins of History www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…
I wanted it to kind of look like this area had been submerged for a long time but was just recently drained out (either through a mechanism or through magic), revealing hidden monuments and a path for the group to use to escape the burning city in the background.
Featured your gorgeous illustration:
After The CallTangerine Dream's song, "After The Call", brings to mind the last marathon runner, struggling to finish after the race has been called, the officials and crowds gone home, and no one is left to care whether he crosses the place where the finish line used to be, but himself. It is a song of undaunted determination in the face of unseen odds and apparent failure, a triumph of the spirit known only to the runner and his maker. As you can guess, I identify with this image, and perhaps a few of you do too. We believe we can do great things, yet we stumble and doubt ourselves when we, despite our best efforts, fail to rise above what we see as mediocrity. We do not judge by God's standards, but by human standards, and do not forgive ourselves for being merely human, less than others who accomplish more in worldly terms. Maybe it's time to celebrate those in our lives whose steady works go unnoticed, whose words while others are critical, are kind and uplifting, and realize that perhaps it'sHave a blessed day! -Debra
I absolutely love this , it reminds me of a dream i had ..it looks very familair in a way
i just notice theres another face carve into the rock
makes me think of Atlantis.
I just keep thinking about what to say about your art, but I just can't organize whats going through my head to write it down.
Beautiful post-apocalyptic scene. Absolutely stunning.
Doomed city, splendid work.
Great cover for a great anthology! I was so pleased when I heard that you were going to be the cover artist, and it wound up looking fantastic.
Lovely, strong, bold colours! Exciting scene, and I love how we are behind this big wall, makes me to want to open the book so that I can see more of whats going on here!
This cover all on its own makes me want to buy the anthology. It makes me want to know more about the people and definitely more about the city and its ancient mechanisms and purpose, as well as makes me curious about what other stories on the same theme might be hidden in the book.
Wow, what a beautiful picture, and the illustration book WIPS you posted are amazing too.
When do you think your book will be for sale?
When do you think your book will be for sale?
It'll depend on how quickly I can get the artwork done while working around my commission work schedule, but I'm aiming for early summer. I'll be posting more solid updates as the work nears completion.
Oh it's gorgeous, I'm loving those warm and vibrant hues.
ah yes I like this very much yes
I'm only wondering why the exit is shaped like a face ?
You really conveyed a sense of urgency and being lost. Gorgeous!
You are my favorite DA artist.
Gorgeous! I love that the child in front is carrying a book. The body language of the people gives a great sense of emotional stress and rapid movement.
I favorite'd this piece a while back. I was sifting through my watched deviation stack and I noticed the profile of a face on the opening the people are running through I had not noticed before. Very clever. Simply gorgeous!
oh my lord. Gorgeous.
I will advertise the artwork and the kickstarter project on my Facebook fantasy page. Very nice work. Looking forward to the release.
This is amazing I love this so much ohmygosh
if the face was less obvious I'd like it better.
That amount of detail is fantastic.
Oh, this is GORGEOUS. I love the composition and the gold tones in the background (also that profile-so pretty!). It's so lovely.
Wow, amazing work! Very well done indeed!
I saw this on tumblr but I only just now noticed the profile cut into the arch which was a bit startling but very cool. I noticed it after i read your description so initially it felt like a guiding force pointing the way for them, even if they were not aware themselves. Very cool art for a very cool project
Holy, exquisitely magnificent! The Characters look stunning and The Burning City is incredible! The expressions, poses, waterfall, water, water droplets, outfits, fire, effects, architecture, wheel/statue, atmosphere, composition, concept, uniqueness, colors, lighting, style, and other details are also wonderful! Amazingly beautiful work!
This is beautiful. Such rich and brilliant colours.

out of curiosity, how big do you make your canvas resolutions to paint usually?
Such work is beautiful. I love the vibrant colors. The more I study this piece the more I discover its intricacies. Great job!
Gorgeous, love the concept too!
Oh, it's gorgeous. The costumes! The head-shaped doorway! The colors!
This is the cover of the year! Love everything about it. The Silo, the water the tunnel door..awesome!
The water in this is just beautiful, I'm just imagining the sounds that the drips and little rivulets would make next to that rushing river.
I don't even have words... this is fantastic... the colors, the details, the textures.... -awe-
