I've created a new Facebook page for my art if anyone wishes to follow me there as well as here. I'm going to use the Facebook page to post more sketches and work in progress shots as well as finished illustrations. On top of that I'll be opening up commissions and working on giving away art every now and then. Check it out at www.facebook.com/artofjuliande…

Been a while since I've posted any new journal entries. I've kept myself quite busy over the last few months or so since Armageddon in October last year with conventions, illustrations and studies. I had told myself that this year would be about doing as many conventions as possible, within reason of course and so far I've been keeping up with most of the big ones in Australia. I did Oz Comic Con in Perth about 1.5 months ago and Supanova in Melbourne and Gold Coast over the last two weeks respectively. They've been so much fun for many different reasons. Seeing how people react to your art and getting different ideas for futures cons as well as meeting some amazing people and making those elusive connections. Aside from that I've decided to put anything colour related to the side for now and focus on figure drawing and anatomy studies. I regard myself as competent in that area but I'm no where near where I want to be so I've figured I might as well just put my mind to that for as long as it takes until I'm at a level I'm pleased with. The reasoning behind this was meeting Jason Palmer :iconjasonpal: at the Perth con and getting a bit of critique on my work from him. He basically said my rendering was fine but my figure drawing needed more work. It was kind of elevating in a way to hear that because up until that point a lot of my figure drawings have felt kind of forced and did't look all that natural, or at least not how I wanted them to look. So since then I've just been working my way through some anatomy and figure drawing books and resources. What I've done so far in terms of studies has made understanding the figure a lot easier. I'm working to go back to basics and include more structure in each of my drawings so that I might be able to draw much more quickly and more accurately. But aside from that I'm going to be keeping myself busy with those studies for the time being and focusing on conventions for the rest of the year. I'll still try to do some illustrated pieces but they'll probably be every now and then instead of on a regular basis.

Haven't written a journal in a few months but I figured it's time to write something. So for anyone on tumblr you can choose to follow me at artbydeputee.tumblr.com/ and tell me how much you love it when I go pen to paper or stylus to wacom or whatever your fetish is. Also I'm going to be attending Armageddon this year which is the 13th/14th of October with :iconhughfreeman: and :iconthechamba: This is going to be an interesting experience for me considering I have never grabbed a table for myself at a convention nor will I have had heaps of people looking at my work. It's definitely going to be an exciting and nervous experience. I guess if you're in Melbourne and love nerds and cosplayers and the occasional hot chick, you should come and visit. I'm going to be selling prints, some ready made sketches and doing some commissions. :)
