WD.issue5.Pg2.Szekeres by Jozef-Szekeres WD.issue5.Pg2.Szekeres by Jozef-Szekeres
Originally painted in 1994, This was interior artwork for the fifth issue Pg2 for the Original WaveDancers comic series. The art features Jormak and Winnowill in a possible post coitus moment . Jormak was a minor villain in this series, and one of the support characters. He was easily lead on by Winnowill's deceit for he blindly wanted to believe she was the lost crown Reanafel.

Art © and ™ 1994-2007 Jozef Szekeres

Winnowill © and ™ Warp Graphics (I include this here as it should be, Warp Graphics should show the same legal courtesy to Black Mermaid Productions on their ElfQuest website and credit our work and legal ownership of our characters with our legal copyrights on their WaveDancers page...as shown above.)

Thank you. The background colors were done in dyes, which I was very new to. I'd only had 4 issues worth of experience with acrylics, but knew by then that I preferred them over the dyes. I enjoyed the elongated shapes of Winnowill in this piece, and the languid intimacy of the characters.

The scan is from the original artwork.

Elf-fin is in the pencilling stage. Painting the 1st issue will be the next think I do. The 1st issue will be 40 pages, a bumper size. Though we know the story for the entire 6 issues, I'm still not sure what the final page count will be.

Thanks for that support of intended multiple purchases...I do the same thing for comics I consider significant to me. Also, the WaveDancers we did was intended to be collected into a GN, but that never eventualted. I remember reading that some fans/readers were holding off buying the issues to await the repackaging of the comics into a GN, as during the time Warp was repackaging many of their comics in GN format. What I've learnt in comis is "get it while it's there" today, for there are no promises for tomorrow.

The print stock for WD was not very good, and copies I have, have also discolored. Expectations in paper quality has risen since then, so we will seek to have the new work printed on quality paper.

what I love best of these beautiful painting is how you worked the hair. It feels thick, and so silky. I really admire how you draw hair!

Thank you. The black hair was a revelation for me in painting, and it then grew into an understanding for other colors and hair treatments.

Thank you. I liked the angle of Winni's face too. I used dyes for the background and acrylics for the figurework.

How do you get about doing artwork. Sit down and do it. If it's crap, consider it your worst, and that with each new work you will be better, for with each new painting your experience and skills will support each new and better artwork.

Excellent, thank you.

I sometimes feel like my work is crap when starting something entirely new. My first sculpture ever was crap, but the 3rd one I did was an official bust for Disney Animation. So one crap sculpture...followed by one not so crap sculpture, followed by a professional finished sculpture, used as reference by other artists. Like in that film Shawshank Redemption, sometimes you know you have to crawl through crap to reach artistic freedom.

I like your work btw. ;-)
