Early Pie

Some more MLP slice of life goodness

This is what Spitfire Soarin do Just before a hards day work at the academy.

This piece was a lot of fun to colour I wanted to create a strong contrast to the background and foreground so I used primary blues and oranges for the atmosphere

Note: I changed Soarin's cutie mark since it was not his official cutie mark from the show I did not know he even had a cannon mark.

Check out my FIM title card project… I will have a new card done soon :)

At no point is this meant to hurt feelings it is meant as an honest review of the picture and if the artist wishes to discuss the review or needs more details I would be happy to discuss it with them. Now without any further delay onto the review.

Vision: I'm just loving the vision here. This for all of those ponies out there who've been wondering were the pegasi go to eat. It is just awesome an so worth 4 stars.

Originality: Though it's not of an original character it is still flowing with originality. Come on it's a pie shop on a cloud! How is that not awesome? Even with the wrong cutie mark it could just be marketed as an original character. I give it 4.5 stars.

Technique: This digital work is full of color and detail that make it a great image. I'm not usually big on the digital work but this one is just down right amazing! 4 stars.

Impact: Well the whole scene is just flowing with emotion and just draws the viewer into want more. I give it 4.5 stars.

Overall it is great and not even Rainbow Dash can make it 20% more awesome. I can't wait to see what else this artist has to offer.

I love this piece, one of the only negative things I can say is that I can't use it as a desktop background.

This is a perfect establishing shot, it builds the scene and I can't stop imagining this as the first panel in a comic. Everything in this scene is there for a reason, that little red radio in the top right subconsciously creates an ambience for the pie shop; everyone knows what 60s diners sound like thanks to films etc.

The characters fit into the scene perfectly too, they do not steal all the attention and if anything I would say the main subject of this piece is the landscape behind them. Soarin has a very amusing expression but it does not look out of place, the wrinkles around his eyebrows are a lovely touch and really emphasise the movement of his brow.
We can tell it is early in the morning straight away from Spitfire's yawn and the coffee cups confirm this. Although Spitfire's colour scheme is the most different from the rest of the pallet, she blends in very well with the the piece, the small patch of green on her flank and the way her wing matches some of the yellow/greens in the grass in the background are particularly well done.

The lighting is very well executed, Spitfire and Soarin sitting mainly in shadow and the reflection of the clouds on the floor of the pie shop are two stand out features.

I want to mention how vividly blue the sky is, and how brilliant the colour palette in this piece is. The greens and blues work very well together being analogous and the red sign and Spitfire provide a few points of contrast. The deep crimson on the buildings on the far left is also very appealing; nothing in this piece is boring.

The way the counter and all the clouds are aligned draws the eye towards the space around the sign, in terms of composition this piece is excellent. Especially, as I mentioned earlier, as an establishing shot of a movie or comic.

I really hope to see more pictures like this.

Episode 5 of Season 5 gave us something to think about with more detail coming through about that floating city of Cloudsdale. A pie shop like this is probably a case of the "didn't know you wanted it, until you wanted it" scenario. And who better to promote such a place - Soarin with Spitfire sitting through what would be the 100th pie eaten on that day alone with a few cups of coffee most likely. The colour here is vivid but not extreme. Line work is calm and serene. Everything says, come over and enjoy your stay. Well done Jowy /)

I really enjoy this piece you have crafted up. The style is very eye catching, your shading and details are very nicely done, (Its mlp, which idk if that makes a difference), I like the idea of a cool pie shop up in the sky for pegasi to go to.

Originality is a 4.5 because, its very uncommon to see a pie shop, but i have seen one some time ago. Good work tho!

Technique is a 4 because this is an occasionally sued style of art, although uncommon, it is not a brand new genre of style.

Overall the Impact is a 5, because it was obvious you put a lot of effort into making this piece (I myself cant make art for my life <img src="…" width="15" height="15" alt=":P" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=":P (Lick)"/>).
