Jossu, your style is captivating. I just perused a big chunk of your gallery and as an art historian I have to say you have a style reminiscent of certain West Coast representational artists of the 20th century, with a touch of Matisse, Basquiat, and the 19th century Symbolists. I love your juxtaposition of gestural looseness and rigid control/detail. In undergrad I explored a similar style (I should probably find and resubmit more of my original art in that mode) and I'm just grateful to see someone who still experiments so successfully with traditional media.

Oh, you're very kind! I appreciate good observations, with symbolism especially, I think I do rather go for indirect implications and dreamlike environments more than realism, you know. People have compared my stuff occasionally to Matisse, Schiele or even Van Gogh to my surprise. Basquiat is a nw comparison. I don't think I have boldness in his level, but I do experiment with my mediums a lot.

You know, media media. Tho some people also say that mixing all medias together is also a way not to fine tune skill in any one of them, which turns experimentation into a comfort zone. It all depends how you look at it.

I can as an art history professor ABSOLUTELY see Matisse's contours and Schiele's relationship to anatomy! Your work also is like early Van Gogh, yes, or if you look at the portraits of French peasants, particularly women and infants.

I can see how mixed media can be compared to a crutch, but I can't agree that it's a disadvantage if one has already mastered all the media forms individually.

Anyway, keep up the beauty.
