Figures - Day 362 - Learning to Draw

Published:

Description

I did some figure-drawing exercises here.

Each section corresponds to 30-second, 1-minute, 2-minute, and 5-minute drawings respectively.

This page took me 14 minutes to draw on the 5th of January, 2017. It was the last of three pages drawn that day, for a total of 33 minutes.

Any feedback or advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I got here from line of action when I was doing some practice. If you want to get better at drawing, I would recommend you work through a program like drawabox.com. It's free and has a fairly good roadmap on how to improve in a progressive fashion. There are absolutely better programs out there, but it's probably one of the best free ones. It's based off the work of Peter Han, and actually his teacher, I forget the name. I think it would help you develop a sense of 3d space on a 2d surface which is super important.

Word of advice though, the figure drawing section of the site is well intentioned but very lacking, I wouldn't recommend it. If you have money the Watts atelier is probably the best online school for learning to draw and paint, and their figure/portrait stuff is superb. If you don't Proko on youtube has some good stuff, but I don't think timed gesture drawings are what anyone should be doing until they know how to navigate the human figure in some manner.
