UPS or Ooops? ...or Deny, Deny, Deny

UPS or Ooops? ...or Deny, Deny, Deny

This is the story of a cover-up.  Maybe even a double cover up.  It is the story of a missing package and of solving the mystery. A package from Amazon was due for delivery last Wednesday.  Wednesday afternoon I received this e-mail: Hi Joseph, your package has been delivered. Delivery Date:    Wednesday, 11/28/2018 Delivery Time: 03:33 PM Left At: Front Door I go out to look for the package at the front door.  No package.  I look all along the porch, I look in front of the garage door, I look in the driveway.  No package. I call UPS to tell them I received no package.  The woman wanted me to make sure I had looked carefully.  "Yes, it's n

Young Love

Young Love

I woke about an hour ago and lay beside my wife -- still sleeping, my arm across her body, her hand atop mine. If someone had been there to see us I guess he would have seen us as two people in their sixties, an old married couple, but it doesn't feel that way to me. I don't feel like a newlywed -- it's not like that either. There's a different kind of energy from that, but there is definitely an energy -- a sort of low frequency but powerful pulse, like a sound that is not heard but felt deep inside the chest.

My Favorite Quotes

My Favorite Quotes

This is a list of favorite quotes that has been growing in my facebook profile from the beginning of time.  Well, the beginning of facebook time.  Problem is, they are buried so deep in my profile that no one ever sees them. Some of the quotes are by celebrated figures, some are book or movie quotes, and some of the best ones are by my friends.  This includes my best friend Bee Thomas. "I need to stop and smell my friends." -- Bee Thomas, 2014 "Thinking about the books I have read and loved, and their pervasive influence on my life. For example, I admired Atticus Finch but tended to date Huck Finn." -- Virginia Parker, 2013 "I wouldn

Sarah Elizabeth Jones ... 1986-2014

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone, Suzanne the plans they made put an end to you. I woke up this morning and I wrote down this song, I just can't remember who to send it to. Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain, I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end, I've seen lonely nights when I could not find a friend, But I always thought I'd see you again. Won't you look down upon me Jesus, you've got to help me make a stand, You've just got to see me through another day. My body's aching and my time is at hand, I won't make it any other way. Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain, I've seen sunny days that

Those of you who know me well enough will get this. My granddaughter Elizabeth Anne is an apprentice hairdresser and a pretty swanky salon. Now, Elizabeth and I were best buddies when she was a kid, and we spent a lot of time together, so I was bound to have some influence over her personality, yes? A few days ago she told me this little tidbit. She was doing a woman's hair at the salon, and was almost finished. She said, "I have just a few more things to do and I'll be out of your hair."  She told me that she didn't know she was going to say that until the words were leaving her mouth. This is the sort of thing that happens to me all the ti

Thinking of a Lost Friend

And even you, yesterday, You had to ask me where it was at. I couldn't believe, after all these years, You didn't know me any better than that, Sweet Lady. -- Bob Dylan --  "Idiot Wind"

Today I spent the morning and early afternoon visiting with my brother Fred, who is dying of cancer in a Macon, Georgia hospital. I don't know that he was even aware that I was there. My niece leaned close to tell him I was there, and when she repeated it she said that he answered, "I know." I would like to think he knew I cared enough to make the trip. I did get to visit with his wife, though, which was good, and then Fred's son and wife came in so I had a little time with them. And my niece, who I already mentioned. Tomorrow he is to be moved from the Macon hospital to a hospice in Perry, so Fred will be going back "home." He won't be rece

For Jenna, Nicole, April, Sophie, Sara, Josie, and Serena. For whoever is in troubled waters. When you're weary Feeling small When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all I'm on your side When times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part When darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay m

Some Favorite Quotes

I haven't submitted a journal -- nor anything else, come to think of it -- to deviantArt for some time. I don't really have anything clever to say now, but I was going through my "Favorite Quotes" on facebook, and thought I would share them here. Some of the quotes are my own, some by my friends, some from books or movies. And, of course, there is one from Bee. "Your mind's in overdrive but you're stuck in park." -- April Philyaw, 2013 (Met here on dA, and friendship has grown beyond these walls.) "I am a singer in the broken spot light." -- Michaella Ciaccio, 2013 (Daughter (13 yrs old) of my dear friend Celine, who I consider to be m
