Koba Pencils

And here's the next villain on the docket: Koba from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Both a fine film and an even better cautionary tale about apes with guns.

I'll be working on the ink videos soon.

Wow.  So different from other pencils of yours I've seen.  I zoomed in on this as much I could to see what you did.  It gives the impression of a wash on my screen.  Did you do this with hard graphite?  What grade?
JosephLSilver's avatar
A combination of 2h and b pencil leads

I see.  TY.  And did you ghost it with a gum eraser?
JosephLSilver's avatar
No, I only erased where necessary with a white eraser.

So, then, you draw with an exceedingly light touch?

When working on pencils that detailed I tend to work the same way as I do with my inks: as controlled as possible once the image has been fleshed out.

I can understand how that would work when you're working from reference.  Is that what you're doing here?  But working from scratch, from imagination, things start messy.  I don't see any construction lines or signs of stages of development.  So, if this isn't copied from reference, is it, then, a clean light box tracing?

It is from a reference, yes. And not a light box tracing.

Thank you, I do try to work at both.
