Putting Images Inside Text by josephine12cute

A tutorial I made after many requests I got from "your doll". You guys really don't have to follow this if you find this a bit difficult. Though, it really doesn't look difficult. It just looks confusing & complicated

Great Tutorial! Also found the Alt and clicking inbetween the 2 layers very useful as well!!!

You know you don't have to go through all that to put an image inside text right? All you have to do is put the image you want under the layer and then hold down the alt key and click in between the two layers. It will do an auto layer mask and put the image right inside the text for you with no effort or work on your part.

Hi, I gave this a try, and it just made a clipping mask where the "edge" of the "Y" was. That is to say, it wouldn't fill in the blank space inside the Y - it just put the picture in the thin outline of the Y. I tried flipping them, and then it didn't really do much at all ... am I doing something wrong?

If it's a highlight font without a solid BG that's what it will do. Though you can use a solid font and stroke it. I haven't done it in a long time, so I just remember that's how I use to fill in fonts. :3

I AM a newbie myself...

Well, as I mentioned in the later part, this is not the only way to put image inside text. Its just something I learned myself while making the wallpaper and just sharing it. Besides, the layer mask thing in the tutorial does not only apply to putting image inside a text after all...

I see, it just seemed like an over complicated way to do it. Layer masking is used for a lot of different things, but maybe I'll make a quick tut at some point with the image inside text to show a simple 2 step way to do it without any cutting pasting or extra layers. ^_^

Keep learning though, PS is just such an amazing program!

I also try to see some vids... though since I use PS 7, things I can do are limited... and I'm also busy with school.. I just started using PS this April

I use PS7 too! I have a tutorial in my random folder on how to make a soap bubble brush, but the skills you learn from that will show you how to create other brushes as well. I have a great video set that I borrowed from a friend, but yeah it is hard when you're busy.

Hope this helps:
Open the image you'll use as a separate file > Unlock the layer by double clicking the layer, then click OK on the dialog box that will appear > Find "Solid Color" on where you can see the layers > Choose the color you want > Change the blending mode and opacity according to your will > Then you either save it or just CTRL + A then SHIFT + CTRL + C (to copy merged) and Paste it to the actual file you'll be using it for.
