Hello Jon! I'm the sculptor (From Belgium) who has done this peace. It is a good remembering! The photo you have taken of it is very beautifull! I like especially the sky wich fits so well with the subject. I'm busy right now making a book about sandsculpture. I'd like to use your picture to illustrate my sculpture. The pictures I've done by myself are not that good as your's. Looking forward to read you. Have a good day and take care!

Hey thank you! As for the book, wow! good luck with that buddy. Of course you can use this photo, just let me know if you require a higher resolution.
I'll edit this deviation to mention you as the sculptor and also enable the download for you.

Hey, great to meet you! :handshake:

Sand statues are so impressive. I was at a sand statue competition =) amazing how fragile they are.

Yes indeed, not only are they fragile to the elements, vandals, chavs and knobheads, try do their worst, luckily unsuccsessful MOST of the time.

:ohnooes: how come...how cruel
Jon4H's avatar
Who knows why, jealousy? or just downright spite. They did have 24hr security this year though.

-wow that's so cool, I wish I could see this in person..

still insane... how do they get the sand to stay that way?

The sand in Weston has been tested for it's stability for sculpting. And, with rigorous testing, i believe it's supposed to be the most stable and suitable for sculpting in this way.

Once the sculptures are completed, they are sprayed, presumably with a light latex composite, to protect from the elements.

You really need to see these to appreciate them, they're awesome :D

Oh wow, that is so cool! How the heck do you know this stuff!

You know what would be amazing? Just going around the world, and taking pictures of monuments and animals. That would be livin' the dream....*sigh*...
