A Brief History On Animal Photography
Art History Week
Before my sister and I decided to join DeviantArt on this account, we did some serious investigation. At first glance, DA might not look like the art community that offers a home to photographers, but there's a true community of zoo photographers, pet photographers and wildlife photographers.

I grew up in Devon in the middle of the countryside but now live just on the edge of Gloucester, between the canal and the river.

I am an automation engineer by day, so I spend my time taking laptops around factories to program PLCs and poking in control panels with a screwdriver. Actually I am office based a fair chunk of the time, but commissioning a project feels like it takes forever sometimes.

Peacock (Aglais io)
The Peacock is a familiar sight in gardens across the British Isles and is unmistakable, with quite spectacular eyes on the upperside of the hindwings that give this butterfly its name. These eyes must appear very threatening to predators, such as mice, that confront this butterfly head-on, where the body forming a "beak".…

Green alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens)
Green alkanet is a perennial found growing wild in damp and shady places in southwest Europe. It has long been cultivated in gardens, especially on alkaline soils and occurs as a garden escapee naturalised in woods and grassy places. Its ability to self-seed and regenerate from the roots make it a troublesome weed.…

The Iron Bridge - 02
The bridge is to a carpenters' design typically used for wood structures, built from five sectional cast-iron ribs that give a span of 100 feet 6 inches (30.63 m). Exactly 378 long tons 10 cwt (847,800 lb or 384.6 t) of iron was used in the construction of the bridge, and there are almost 1,700 individual components, the heaviest weighing 5.5 long tons (5.6 tonnes). Components were cast individually to fit with each other, rather than being of standard sizes, with discrepancies of up to several centimeters between 'identical' components in different locations.…
