FROM THE ISLAND OF FORGOTTEN ANIMATION
A short-lived(13 episodes) TV series, about a highly unusual pair of conjoined twins. When Shari & Amanda Williams, who were joined at the hip, were born, their parents decided against surgical separation. However, not long after they turn 30, they decide upon separation. Unfortunately, during the procedure, complications set in, and while they're able to save Shari, Amanda isn't so lucky, and dies on the operating table. Upon awakening, Shari is told the unfortunate news that Amanda didn't survive the surgery. However, when Shari awakens, she finds Amanda right there where she's been their entire lives, right next to her. At least, Amanda's ghost is right next to her. Amanda explains that even though their bodies were separated, since only Shari survived separation, their spirits are still conjoined, and the only way to separate their spirits would have been for both to survive the procedure. So Amanda is now a ghost, still joined to her sister, who is the only one who can see, hear, and since they're conjoined twins, feel her.
THE SCENE WHERE SHARI FINDS OUT SHE AND AMANDA ARE STILL JOINED:
SHARI-"What are you doing here? You're dead! You died while they were separating us."
AMANDA-"That's why I'm here. you see, while they were able to sever our physical bond, since i died, as it turns out, our spirits are still conjoined, So, in a way, we're still Siamese twins."
SHARI-"Please excuse me if I seem a bit creeped out by all this."
AMANDA-"No problem, if things had turned out different, and you were the one who died, I'd be creeped out myself. Anyways, since I died while they were separating us, our spirits can never be separated."
SHARI-"This is a lot to wrap my head around."
AMANDA-"Face it, sister. Alive or dead, we're stuck with each other for eternity."
TRIVIA
Creator Wendy Westley said the inspiration for the show came from three areas: first, a painting of identical twins in which one was in color and one in black and white. Second, her memories of an imaginary friend from her childhood who was her imaginary Siamese twin. And third, she wanted to write, in her own words, 'a ghost story with a twist".
The way Shari & Amanda were joined was inspired by real-life conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, and they were named after actresses who played Daisy and Violet in a community theater production of Side Show.
In the pilot episode, it was revealed that Amanda's soul was in Heaven, but since their souls were still joined, she could exist in both planes simultaneously. She also explains that while on this plane, she appears in black and white, in Heaven, she appears in full color.
Only a single 13 episode season aired, although season 2 was in pre-production when the show was canceled.
Wendy Westley revealed that had the series continued into a second season, Shari would have gained the ability to interact with the dead.
Along with Shari's ability to interact with the dead, the second season would have introduced Colin, the ghost of an 11-year-old boy with Down Syndrome, who is revealed to be the child Shari miscarried when she was 19.
A running gag related to Shari's ability to interact with the dead would be meeting people who are in Heaven despite people thinking they would be in Hell. The one that was scripted was blues musician Robert Johnson, who reportedly sold his soul to the devil to become a blues master. He explains that he found a loophole which got him into Heaven, which he attributes to the fact all the lawyers are in Hell.
The pre-credits scene from the first episode is the only scene in the series that shows Amanda alive, and explains why the two were separating: Amanda had just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and her treatment would adversely affect Shari.
The series was originally planned for five seasons of 13 episodes, for a total of 65 episodes.
If the series had gone to its planned conclusion, the pre-credits scene of the final episode would have been Shari's death, the episode would have centered around her funeral, and the final scene would be the two sisters reunited in death.
