Daisy Mae

The (Mis)Adventures of Daisy Mae(1997), a 100-episode animated series, about Daisy & Mae McCoy(voiced by real-life identical twins Elaine and Corrine Dawson), from the fictional town of Bug's Britches, Arkansas. Daisy & Mae, 19-year-old conjoined twins, were raised as a two-headed woman, and they always refer to themselves in the first person singular.

TRIVIA

1. The series was originally supposed to take place in West Fork, Arkansas, which was described as being near El Dorado. However, during pre-production, Weston Hawthorne, who voiced Daisy & Mae's cousin Clem, and grew up in El Dorado, pointed out that while El Dorado is in southern Arkansas, West Fork is actually near Fayetteville, in the northwest corner of the state. The name Bug's Britches came from producers overhearing Elaine and Corinne Dawson joking about place names in the deep South. Corinne jokingly mentioned that one particular town was "Just a couple miles from Bug's Britches", and they liked the name, and decided to use it.

2. Weston Hawthorne also pointed out that the town of El Dorado, Arkansas was pronounced "El Do-ray-do", and not "El Do-rah-do".

3. This was not the first time Elaine and Corinne Dawson had played conjoined twins. When they were 6, they appeared on St. Elizabeth General, a hospital drama, as Jane & Jean Howard, Siamese twins admitted to the hospital to be separated.

4. The running gag where uncle Clyde passes gas after saying "I'm just an old fart, you know." was originally unplanned. Voice actor Jeff Irvine legitimately broke wind immediately after saying the line the first time, and producers liked the gag so much they left it in.

5. Despite the fact that Clem is a year and a day older than Daisy Mae, in real life, Elaine and Corinne Dawson are 18 months older than Weston Hawkins.

6. Although never actually mentioned on the show, promotional materials, as well as the first issue of the tie-in comic book, explicitly states Daisy & Mae's parents are first cousins.

7. Contrary to popular belief, Daisy and Mae weren't named after the character of Daisy Mae from Li'l Abner. Creator Parker Adams claims he chose the names Daisy & Mae because he felt "Daisy Mae" was "the most Deep South" name I could think of."
