The Italian Holiday

There's an old wives tale that if you drink the local wine the mosquitoes wont bite you, I can tell you now what an absolute load of crap that is, my third day into my stay in Italy and I've been totally devoured in bites and its been 34 degrees Celsius everyday I've been here. On top of that I agreed to pick grapes yesterday and my back is killing me, I can barely tie my shoelaces and I have to be at a engagement party in less than an hour, things are not going well. After my expulsion from college my Father sent me to Italy to get myself to decide what it was I wanted to do with my life, my temper was always getting the best of me, and getting into fights and hanging out with the wrong crowd had gotten me into a lot of trouble. When I was arrested I tested positive for cocaine and my parents decided that I needed to be removed from London and sent to their back water town in Calabria where the only thing you could score would be a bloody opera. Staying with my grandmother was

HONEY

Honey was an 8 year old miniature Staffordshire bull terrier with bad mange and arthritis, she had been in the shelter only two days and was being treated by the staff who adored her sweet but timid nature, her owner did not have the money for vet fee's and died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage, it was three days before anyone knew he was dead and when they entered his flat Honey was by his side crying and hungry. Each day people came to look at the dogs and paid little attention to her, most people wanted dogs who were lively and healthy, if you would look inside Honeys kennel you would of seen her on her bed despondent and old. As time went by Honey got worse and the staff decided that in the next month she would be put to sleep if no one came to re-home her as so many dogs were coming into the shelter and the kennels were needed. Jessica had just turned eight and her parents had given into her demands for a dog as a present for her birthday, her mother who had experience growing

tWR November Prompt: Neighbors

I felt sorry for her. The girl from Kentucky with her big doe eyes. She'd spent the night in a shouting match with her girlfriend and another girl. Impossible to miss through the thin walls of the apartment complex. And now she sat in the passenger seat of my car with her carry-on bag and a phone. Crying. "I came to California for my girlfriend," she tells me. "I'd go anywhere for her." An answer to a question I didn't ask. I knew, from our brief conversations on the porch, and the short hello-goodbyes when we ran into each other on the way to the store, why she'd crossed the country by herself with almost nothing to her name. A bold next step for an online romance. "Can you tell her I love her?" She pokes at the phone in her lap. "They won't let me keep my phone once I'm committed." I don't reply right away. I am a coward, so instead I fiddle with the temperature controls and pretended to watch the long, empty road. "She knows," I finally say. Then a heartbeat later. "I could

I'm a big Stella Vine fan too Rory, your art is very similar to hers but from a male perspective if that makes sense, if she can do it then you can too.

Great article and I have to admit I knew nothing about those protests on the American TV networks, you might not know I am a big Jazz fan and especially the London and UK scene of young musicians who have breathed new life into a genre that was not dying as people say but just needed new blood. As long as people have hate in their hearts there will always be racism, we are too tribal and greedy as a species to want change, it is sad but true Rory, having lived in London all my life when I moved to the suburbs I experienced racism myself, I have had two neighbours tell me to Fuck off back to my own country and have been called Paki even though I am not Pakistani, we live in a world of morons Rory and there will always be hatred and ignorance, but we fight for change and I know you will too.
