Acceptance

Sequel to "Rough Patches".

The transition from the bright, public space of the mall to the private confines of the Lola and Lana bedroom marks a significant shift in the atmosphere. After Emma called out her human counterpart and adoptive twin sister for her manipulative streak, she soon finds Lola sat on her bed wallowing in shame, contemplating about her unscrupulous actions towards her new twin sister, hands resting on her knees, crossed, legs curled up, and head drooped. Her tiara is also notably absent, which Emma sees as Lola feeling undeserved of wearing it as it symbolizes her material ego.

The two girls sit on Lola’s bed, surrounded by the pastel pink canopy, stuffed animals, and the adjacent bed of the muddy tomboy—a stark, almost ironic contrast to the dark reality they are unpacking.

Lola turns towards Emma, the usual pageant-queen arrogance completely absent. The silence stretches for a moment before she finally speaks.

"I just... I felt so small," Lola admits, her voice quiet. "Getting grounded, losing my privileges... I hated feeling like I didn't have any power. So when Lindsey showed up, I used you. I just wanted to feel like I was better than someone else for five minutes." She looks up, her eyes wide and hesitant.
