JOHN JENNINGS is an Associate Professor of Visual Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is an accomplished designer, curator, illustrator, cartoonist,and award-winning graphic novelist. His work overlaps into various disciplines including American Studies, African American Studies, Design History, Media Studies, Sociology, Women and Gender Studies, and Literature. Jennings is co-author of the graphic novel The Hole: Consumer Culture, Black Comix: African American Independent Comics a, and co-curator of Out of Sequence: Underrepresented Voices in American Comics. He is also, co-author of the upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler’s classic dark fantasy novel Kindred along with longtime collaborator Damian Duffy. Also, with collaborator Stacey Robinson, Jennings has created an arts collective called Black Kirby which is dedicated to studying black visual culture while celebrating the legacy of Jack Kirby’s monumental career in American comic book culture.
