True Grit by JoeVeen True Grit by JoeVeen
Here is a snapshot (Canon PowerShot S3) of my latest watercolor painting. The camera muted the colors a bit and added a lot of noise - I'll have to try shooting this again at mid-day. Hopefully, I'll get better results.

I used a very limited palette on this one and spent a good deal of time experimenting with different techniques. (dry brush, splatter, glazing, etc...) At one point, I found myself putting dry spagetti noodles on the canvas and spraying paint over them to add some random lines into the background, which was a first.

Overall, I think this was a highly successful painting and it will look great framed on my studio wall.

Actual Size: 12.75 x 18.75

FYI: I used this photo [link] from *jademacalla as a reference.

UPDATE: I've posted a short video of this illustrations progression on Youtube, which can be viewed here: [link]

great work. Jade is an excellent stock model/photographer. He's got everything necessary to pull out what people want in an image.

That is very, very darn cool. I love watercolours and your piece is a fine--no, excellent--example of the medium. Awesome! :)

Wow, really lovely work. I've always had a lot of respect for watercolourists, and this is a great example. You've given this a fantastic moodiness and depth (love the smoke). :salute:
