Here's my Radical Edward vs Alphonse Elric Art Duel submission. Actual size: 16.5" x 10"

I spent a little over 12 hours creating this piece using Corel Painter X and my good ol' Adesso drawing tablet. Honestly, there is still quite a bit that I could go back in and render with more detail, but the deadline is looming and I'm out of time.

Alphose was actually a lot of fun to draw and paint, so I'll probably be doing another illustration with him. However, I really struggled with Radical Edward (one of my all time favorite characters). I guess I'm not used to drawing little girls. At all.

Alright, better late than never right? This scene reminds me of the episode of Bebop where Ed plays against Chess Master Hex, and if that was your inspiration kudos!
Now Alphonse's proportions look a little odd. I can't be for sure if it's just because of the heavy shadow work, but it seems as if the distance from his foot to his knee is equal to that of Radical Edward's, a girl not even a third his size. Again, might just be the shadows deceiving my eye. I also think this is the most docile I've ever seen Ed when she's not sleeping (and she's pretty animated then too). I know it's a game of chess, but even at that she is just constant motion, and I feel you missed out on that.
The backdrop for the piece is very nice! Enough to know where they are, but not too much to pull away from the focus. In fact it does drive your eyes to the two and that's always nice to see. Well done!

I think my favorite thing about this piece is the way it almost feels like it is done in oils. I like the detail on the armor and the expression on the girls face. I love the little detail that the glowing from the eye is repeated on her face.

I enjoy this as a whole, but i think it's the small touches that really make it shine.
case in point; the glow of the chess board, the detail on the armor and the expression on edward's face.
Excellent piece!!
