This is the cover for the latest children's book I have illustrated: Liv och Smilla - Viktigt på riktigt (like all the books I've illustrated, it's in Swedish). A book about cats and about writing. So I simply drew how my now-dead cat Simba and I used to spend our evenings when I was a teenager, but with the characters from the book.

If you know Swedish, or just want a book illustrated by yours truly, you can pre-order the book here: www.idusforlag.se/viktigt_pa_r…

What? No Pippi Långstrump? That's the only thing I know about Sweden! That

and Karl XII.

Haha, I never really liked Pippi Långstrump as a child! I was much more interested in the high fantasy stuff Astrid Lindgren wrote, like Mio, My Son and The Brothers Lionheart. They don't seem to be as popular as Pippi outside Sweden, and I'm not sure why.

I never heard of them. I guess publishers would not take the risk. I read a couple of the Pippi series as a kid and liked them some. There were not a lot of children's books in translation that I remember. Television was huge competition for children's entertainment from 1950 on here.

I mean, they're both very dark tales, even though they are aimed at children. So that might be why they aren't quite as well-known. But I definitely recommend them! Christopher Lee actually played the villain in a pretty weird adaptation of Mio, My Son.

In that case I will find them and read them. Always glad for new directions in books!

They're definitely worth it if you like fantasy! Maybe I should read them again soon.
